They were a good design, but like most W horns they had to be crossed over around 400-500 Hz due to their flat panel construction. I got around that restriction with my DR series by using all curved pathways, extending the woofer horn response to 2kHz.

Poor Bill can't even enjoy his 'thank you' thread without having to get out the slide rule

Can't help but think Bill's designs are the future.
They get the most of a driver. We're all downsizing, and you'll get a lot more SPL's off a horn than a baffle.

Neo's aren't going to get cheaper because the magnets are competing with motors for cars, and tools.

That 8x10 will eventually cost more to make because of the price of drivers, versus the labor to make an T39. Weight and efficiency wise it already cost a lot more over the life of the cabinet.

It could possibly be that you'll see cab makers actually competing in high efficiency designs using modern drivers some day. Lightweight, high efficiency designs. What Bill already has.

Yes Bill, please continue to tell it like it is, no matter how far astray some of us wander with our preconceived and "off base" ideas, such as thinking:

• that the 4x10 design is an efficient one
• that adding a 1x15 cab under a 4x10 will add more low end
• that a single 15" woofer does not need a crossed-over mid-driver
• that placing a second cab next to the other one will be better
• that dispersion and beaming aren't worth thinking about
• that a cab's wattage rating is all we need to focus on and that a higher wattage rating means more bass output and more power handling without regard to excursion capability
• that a bigger magnet weight means more bass output
• that you can shove a high quality woofer such as a 3015 or 3015LF into any existing speaker cab (as a replacement driver) and expect it to perform as well as a cab designed specifically for that driver
• that stacking a pair of 2x10 cabs horizontally is just as good as stacking them vertically
• that a 300 watt amp will be twice as loud as a 150 watt amp
• that hiss comes from the tweeter, not the amp

I'm sure I left out a bunch of our other misguided ideas, but those were the ones that popped into my mind at the moment.

Note to all: I did not list those examples to start a debate in this thread about any particular issue, as that is not the purpose of this thread. I only provided a list to give some indication of how valuable Bill's input is to us TB'ers.

That has to be far and away the most productive hour I've ever spent on the internet.

Everybody really should watch this all the way through, at least the first time. It is one of those things you can go back to and spend 2 days soaking up the stuff put out in every 2 minutes of video.
