Bill got heartburn from repeating himself so often. A TB speaker cabinet Wiki would have helped. 
We are lucky to have such a person around here
all the knowledge in the world is great, but if you are condescending and mirthless, well it gets you nowhere. personally he took himself too seriously. and thats what happens. he's not the only person to build a sucessful speaker. there are many valid designs and philosophies.

We were then. While I didn't/don't understand everything he would say, I certainly benefitted from his participation
Valid points. Bill and I could have fun or lock horns a little, sometimes just gave him more rope and watched.
He might be blunt in address and dismissive of others' POV, but reading his posts (before I registered) I'd often think the gentleman had the patience of Job.

Those who got butthurt from Bill's "direct" approach just didn't quite grasp the oblique mentality of an engineer. I'm an engineer, and from time to time I catch myself talking a bit too emotionless, as if I am some kind of programmed robot with no feelings whatsover. So I totally appreciated Bill's approach. But for those folks who are more "normal" (if I can use that word), Bill's approach seemed harsh at times.
I looked beyond that, and focused on what Bill was trying to convey. He was trying to share his wealth of acoustic knowledge. Some folks chose to learn from it, and some folks got their feelings hurt.
I have only been on TB for four years (although I have been playing bass for 41 years), and I can say that Bill was one of the shining stars on TB. I can only attempt to imagine how frustrating it must have been for Bill having to dispel myths over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. And yet, no matter how many times he tried, there would ALWAYS be some human who would insist on being right because he loves his rig, even though from an acoustical engineering standpoint, the rig sucked wangus. But hey, nobody likes being told that their rig sucks wangus, because that would make the owner look stupid, and nobody likes to look stupid, especially in front of others.
Dispersion, beaming, mixing cabs with different sized speakers, etc etc etc. Bill finally gave up, mostly because a large percentage of the TB population refused to see the opportunity for an education and see Bill as an incredible source of information...for free!
Our loss. Bigtime.

Most people do not understand engineers
and engineers have a hard time coping with people that do not have a clue but think they know it all.

Brilliant man who got tired of arguing with people who angrily wanted to equate "I think so!!!" or "well, I heard that..." with "here's the physics".
My Omni 10 is my go-to cabinet. But I'm really wanting to either build or buy a Jack 12 (or 2)...
Maybe in the spring.

He's been indifferent to the refusal of people to gather knowledge the whole time. It was having his posts edited that made him leave.
The real reason is that every time you watch a Star Treck episode they say "Fire at Will"! He just got tired of dodging Phasor blasts!!!
