I listen for it, but my ears agree with the previous posts. The parallel setting is lower-level and cleaner, with the benefit of more dynamic headroom and transparency. Serial is higher-level and more saturated. I use parallel by default because I do a lot of outboard processing. When I want a little more grind from the pickups, I sometimes switch the bridge to serial and leave the neck in parallel. When using the higher output serial settings, I try to remember that they reduce dynamic headroom by adding compression and also add some harmonic saturation and possibly some reduction of higher frequencies. So serial settings require less outboard overdrive, compression, and treble cut, typically. In single-coil mode, you can hear hum when you turn the balance beyond 11-1 o'clock. I don't use single coil much with my Delano's because parallel is clean 'nuff, but I do use it with pickups that have more 'character', like the MEC humbuckers on my Rockbass, again for cleaner, more dynamic output (in single coil mode, I always have the balance between 11-1 o'clock).

BTW, I did a mini-overview of the electronics Walbuckers w Noll 3-band filtering preamp and the 3 way toggles (parallel/single coil/series).
Well, I suppose if you're trying to dial in a very particular tone then that is the right set up!

I've noticed in the latest SBL video promotions Scott is actually playing a Wal too, So this set up might become desirable for many.To the best of my knowledge, the Noll 3-band preamp in that lovely apple-fronted Jazzus is NOT a filtering preamp in the same way that a Wal's is.
Assuming it's the TCM 3P preamp, then it's 'just' a 3-band EQ, but with a sweepable frequency range for each band at a fixed bandwidth [Q]. There are no LPF/HPF filters involved.
It's more akin to a mixing console channel-strip EQ than anything else, and therefore about as flexible an onboard tone control as you can get.
Just thought I'd try and add some clarity, speaking as an ex-Wal owner who is currently waiting on an Elwood equipped with this preamp

Well, I've gone and done it. I configuratored an Elwood L and really liked what I saw, clicked on the BUY NOW and got an email from Adrian almost immediately. Took me the rest of the day and overnight, but I sent my deposit today, and in 15 (or so) weeks, I'll be the proud owner of this:
I'm busting. I cannot get over how easy it was to get exactly what I wanted, at a really decent price. Why can't Fender do this? Or, can they but they just don't want/need to? A FSR custom shop bass would have cost $800 to $1000 more than this, even after the exchange rate. Can't wait to join the club!

Congrats! I received my new Elwood L a couple of weeks ago and it's even better than I expected. The most comfortable and best sounding bass I have ever played.Well, I've gone and done it. PSA - I ordered directly from Adrian. Ordered July 26th and it arrived to me on October 20th. It was delivered to me in the US via FedEx. (2 days from Germany which is insane!) Yesterday I received an invoice from FedEx for the Duty Fees. It was $50.45.

Looking for opinions....I have been really drooling over the JOKER B with F holes and can not decide on color and whether to go 32" vs the 34" scale. I really do not play up at the extreme higher frets but there is no choice to go with 21 or 22 frets.
I sent an email to Adrian and he responded quickly that he would be able to match the color/wood appearance of a drum that a friend showed me.
But after playing with the configurator, I also have a high desire for one of these finishes:
I wonder what OUR TEAM feels about my choices:
#1 ---the blue to white burst on a highly figured top wood
#2--- the 3 tone sunburst
#3--- the 2 tone blue/green burst

ALSO, I welcome opinions on the Delano Xtender pickups. Are these traditional Alnico magnets or ceramic magnets? What is your experience with these pickups for getting a "swiss army" bass that can capture Jazz bass vibe, P bass vibe, full range modern sound??

I'm guessing Alnico in the Extenders because Delano uses 'FE' for the exposed pole ceramics (DELANO MC 5 Series). Adrian wrote to me that all the 'HE' pickups have a similar wind -- on one bass, I have the MM shape FE and HE/S in the bridge and neck positions, respectively. The FE is clearer and brighter, while the HE/S are more warm and balanced but I'd still call them clean-sounding. The HE/S have a little more burp in the mids and a little more of a smooth timbre. My Frog has two soapbar HE/S--clean, but balanced and warm--not super bright and clear like Nordstrand Big singles or Dingwall FD3n but neither are they dark and compressed like some MECs and some other traditional bass humbuckers (HE/S are great replacements for MECs). I think the only reason to get the ovals is if you like the way they look, but I only have the soap bars and MM shapes to compare and they are very similar. Given your wish to get both P-bass and jazz tones out of the same pickups, the HE/S are a good option. Balance toward the neck with some treble cut will give you a nice P sound with a mild, pleasing burp, while an even balance or slightly toward the bridge makes for a nice jazz tone. If you wanted super-bright, super-clear, I'd look elsewhere, such as the Delano MM FEs or Nordstrand Big Blades, Big Singles or Zen Blades.
All 3 of your finish ideas are tempting. I'd go for the blue/green over the sunburst but you've already got Adrian's signoff on a custom finish--that's coolness.
