The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

What do you prefer, frog with head or frog without head? Is there big difference between two models?

I can only comment on the headless bolt-on version, but assume that there are differences, at least regarding playability. The missing head makes the bass feel very different and compact. Mine is 32" medium scale, it is shorter than a strat. Also, the bridge is heavier than an average bass bridge. The bridge side of the body is shaped slightly differently than the headed Frog and equipped with two strap pins. I needed time to figure out a good hanging position for myself, but it feels comfortable now.

I am not sure of differences soundwise. My bass may sound a bit more "direct" and less traditional, and I cannot detect any dead spots.

How do you adjust the intonation on this bridge?

Thanks!

With great difficulty. You have to loosen the string, loosen the hex to move the saddle, bring it back in tune and hopefully not have to repeat the process over and over. Then don't forget you have to lock the saddle in place but being careful that it doesn't shift when tightening the hex.

I had a feeling lol

So is there a drop in replacement for the 5 string 17mm bridge?

Pickup this up in the classifieds. Really great sound and plays great. Just find the bridge a bit annoying.

Was also surprised that the truss turns reversed but I figured it out. I'm impressed with the fret work and construction overall

I had a Jake 5 almost identical but in Aqua Burst color, I really liked that bass but found a few other's I enjoyed more.

Interesting observation on the truss rod. I fought my Elwood trying to set it up between adjustments not working on the neck to then having to re intonate it afterwards again and again. I eventually got it all right but now I'm wondering if my truss rod is backwards too. Also wonder if the hipshot A bridge would bit the monorails 17mm for 5 string.

Yeah definitely surprised me, when I received the bass the neck was almost totally flat. Was actually playable with almost no buzzing still, but when the action is that low I don't like the sound (sustain gets a little choked). Did lefty loosey to put a bit of bow back in the neck and it was even worse! So I turned it the other way and it worked to give just a minimal curve to the neck.

Did a Google search and found someone mentioned the reverse Muruszczyk truss in an old thread on another site. Not sure if all their heel adjustments are like that?

You will find that information (and more) in the little book that comes with the bass.
Honestly looked at the build card in it and nothing else. Just checked, and the info is in there and yes it's backwards. Wow I feel dumb and wish I read that back when I got it. Admittedly I don't play the bass much now. I'm really a 4 string player through and through and was hoping a medium scale 5 string would bring me back but it hasn't. Been on the fence for a bit posting it in the classifieds.
