Hey fellas.
Just yesterday, I sold my Warwick bass, because I want to order another Maruszczyk bass.
Have you got any recommendations for me?
My preferences are big. Meaning I'd either like to have another 5 string with 50mm nut, on the other hand, I have been thinking if I should go for a 6 string maybe. The only 6 string I've held in my hands was an Ibanez SR506, and it felt weird. But then again, so did the 5er for the first time, and now I just would've want to miss out on it anymore.
I'd either like another Elwood Model, or a Frog, probably with Nordstrand Big Singles or Fat Singles...
Any recommendations or ideas or hints for me? There's so much to choose...

Obviously it's all in your hands and what your preferences are. When it comes to the 6, I bought a Harley Benton 6er just to mess around with and I quickly found out that I just do not need that "soloist" high C string, but that's obviously up to you.
I personally wouldn't get another Elwood if I already had one, especially when the Frog looks so amazing. So a frog in your desired configuration, maybe headless? I don't know if that's your thing.
The headless Frog has stung me for quite some time now...Ever since I've seen Simon Grove with his Le Fay Herr Schwarz headless bass, I liked the look of it. Maybe I should go for that, and go for 24 fret 5 string instead of the 6er. What disadvantages would it give me? I have no back problems, so a bass with head would be just fine. What about those double ball-end strings?
I also have the chance to get yet another Maruszczyk (Frog 5 string normal) in exchange for my Sandberg California.
Definitely double check but I'm pretty sure the headless system that they use doesn't require double ball-end strings. You just string the bass, then clamp down the string itself at the neckside with a screw and use the tuning machines on the body to tighten the string to pitch.
I went direct through Adrian with no stress.....Haven't tried US dealers....

I haven't bought from him yet but based on communication he seems like a pretty stand up guy. If you buy from Adrian you will have to pay US duty/tax so keep that in mind when you price one. But not if you buy from the US dealer. Here is a recent catalog:

I've ordered 3 basses from Sylvian, with no problems. Sometime it takes him awhile to responds but each time it gets better. He might have a Regular Job too. Not sure. Any question I have . I get a awnser. Just Patient basses take 10 to 12 week Min. Hope this put your mind in easy.
I just ordered my second Maruszczyk bass. I'm sure this will be a stunner! Frog 5a as headless, matte black body and birdseye maple neck and fretboard *drool*
Nice, I honestly have too many basses already but if I were to sell some and buy another one (probably a fretless) it'd either be a Maruszczyk or a Sandberg. Actually, probably a Maruszczyk they seem to have lots of experience with fretless basses. I think Sandberg has a tiny upper hand in fretwork because of the PLEK machines they use.
About the fretwork, I can't say anything really. They did a marvelous job on my first bass. I own(ed) 3 basses. Just sold my Warwick and ordered the Frog. I also have a Sandberg, and I might have the opportunity to swap it for a normal Frog 5 string, I'm seriously considering that, because I am so please with my Elwood Europe that I would settle for just this one manufacturer.
The fret job on my Jake is also great, I can just get the action a hair lower on my Sandberg without any buzzing, which I assume is due to the automated process done by the PLEK machines. That said my sample size is absolutely tiny since I own exactly 1 Maruszczyk and 1 Sandberg bass, just my personal anecdotal experience. As I stated before they seem pretty much equal to me, which is why I'd be conflicted if I were buying another bass right now.
Same price to order through the US Dealers, and frankly, it's nice to have someone to bounce build ideas off of, and let them hound the builders for follow up emails...
Fretspot and Maruscyszyck USA are the top 2...
