Has anyone on here ordered and received a Jazzus with Walbuckers? Just curious if anyone has tried to replicate a Wal and if you came close.![]()
That’s killer, but so is the double P!!I ended up ordering a 32" Jazzus from Randy at the Bass Spotlight. All my other Maruszczyk's are 30" and I have been wanting to get one 32". I have been going down a Wal rabbit hole lately and while I will never buy a Wal Bass I wanted to have something with those characteristics and style and I think this build I came up with will tick those boxes while having its own unique sound. Thanks @Rocket Queen for finding that Jazzus NBD thread...That helped kinda finalize my decision.
Jazzus 32" 21 frets
Body: Alder
Top Wood: Spalted Maple
Neck: 3 piece roasted maple
Fretboard: east Indian Rosewood with Abalone dots and Luminlay side dots
Pickups: Bassculture Walbuckers (switch x2)
Preamp: DarkGlass 3 band (volume, balance, bass, mid, high mid)
Bridge: Hipshot USA B style aluminum
Tuners: Hipshot USA ultralite 1/2" Y

I'll have to let one of my other Maru's go so I will be putting this 30" beauty up in the classifieds this week.

That bass looks killer! I‘d not change the knobs as it would distract from the fingerboard. Just perfect as it is! Do you like the combo of Delanos? I have the same bridge PU but a Jazz PU on the neck position on my Elwood. Could you post some sound samples please?Looks-wise, I had asked them to make the black burst not very bursty and I think they did a nice job on that. The Padouk’s red wood is very nice and has a feel more like maple than I guessed (new wood ro me). The flame maple and satin finish is like silk. I think I might get some red knobs for it to complete the look. I already have a black and red Couch strap that will look great with it.
Nice combo. Ha. That's what I got in my first Frog. Ya, the Delanos seem to sit perfect for me. Easy to push a bit of growl or a soft subtle tone. I'll try to get some time to record some samples. That bass looks killer! I‘d not change the knobs as it would distract from the fingerboard. Just perfect as it is! Do you like the combo of Delanos? DK Nob for some nice wooden knobs to match that finger board.I got my second Frog. Another 5 star job by Maruszczyk.
Objectively, I should put this in context that I am one of those annoying people who wants his action down to mathematic specifics, 1 to 1.5mm exactly without excessive buzzing unless you go forte+
And I am skilled enough and have all the tools I will do fretwork if needed to get there.
Happily, this bass doesn’t need any routine or more work. Put on my brand of strings, and it already met my specs. Adjusting to my climate of course might require some truss rod adjustments later, but right out if the box, perfect slight relief, perfect action, and even the intonation was spot on (by ear at least, we’ll double check with the strobe tuner, but my ear is pretty damn good).
Subjectively, you’d guess I was going for a hybrid of a P bass and Music Man and that is about right. Though with the active 2 band eq and split coil switch, it is very versatile.

5 years late to answerCan anybody give me an idea of what the "lipstick" pups sound like tonally?
I'm thinking about buying another Maruszczyk and I'm intrigued by the look at those pups but can't really find a good video that highlights their tone.
Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!
I had those pickups in a Frog headless and it sounded great, I really like those Delano's... nice and thumpy!I got my second Frog. Another 5 star job by Maruszczyk.

You should be getting a couch photo any day now since your build looks fairly simple unless they were waiting to get pickups from Nordstrand which has happened in the past. You might want to send an email to Adrian just for an update.![]()
