After 24 weeks I'm still waiting, so apparently the "Nordstrand problem" is still there. The same thing happened last year when I ordered a custom frog with Nordstrand Zen Blade 4.

I learned my lesson after I ordered a Paddock with Nordstrands it took 6+mos… ALL due to Nordstrand delays, and lack of responsiveness, getting little to no response from them on delivery time after Adrian and the dealer both made many many calls to them directly… unfortunately that soured me on ever installing Nordstrands in another instrument. There are plenty of fantastic alternatives.

Not professional at all and after almost a year this is still an issue, I should have asked Adrian before ordering.

Zero problems with Aguilar for example.

I guess I don't understand the point of ordering a custom bass from the other side of the planet, and not ordering some of the phenomenal pickups that can be locally sourced for the builder. My Maruszczyk has Delanos, my Adamovic has Häussel bass bars, and if I ever get around to ordering a Ruokangas, it will have their valvebucker.

Although I suppose I potentially open myself up to charges of hypocrisy, as I specify Hipshot hardware on my builds.

Is there even a major European hardware manufacturer on the level of Hipshot or Gotoh? It seems that all the European builders I know of use those two, although I know Warwick manufactures their own hardware.

Of course, they completely slipped my mind. I only really know them for their straplocks. They have some pretty nice looking hardware.

I like their tuners. I really wish they would develop a string retainer similar to what Hipshot and Sandberg have, and I would like to see a version of their 3D bridge with quick-string-change open slots.

Schaller does make nice hardware. I recently swapped the standard tuners in my Elwood with Schallers, model M4 90. Only 52 grams per piece, which is much lighter, and a real improvement overall. The instrument stays in tune better now.

Schallers are a bargain at 80 euros for a set. Whereas Hipshots will cost you 150 euros.

And those Schallers were in a Squire project bass that I wasn't playing anyway.

I've decided to invest in a maruszczyk as these basses look spectacular! I was wondering if someone could help me compare the nitro opaque finish vs the nitro transparent one. When looking at the website I have a hard time telling which one is which. Could you guide me in the right direction or maybe you have some sexy pictures of your own?

Welcome! With transparent finishes, you’ll see the wood grain peep through. With opaque/metallic/sparkle finishes, you’ll just see the solid color. If you choose a top wood for the body, you can only choose a natural (clear) or transparent finish. Nitro wears faster than poly (gloss/matte), which some like.

In the examples below, the top bass has an opaque finish and the bottom bass has a transparent finish. Not sure if they are poly or nitro. Hope that helps!
