It's Christmas-Gift-For-Myself season, and I couldn't resist picking this one up off the Public Peace website:

After some irritation with customs (Sandy Kuban was tremendously helpful and prompt with help) it has arrived, but because of holiday nonsense I haven't really had the chance to get it set up and jam. Can't wait!

I have a similar pickup switch for one of my frogs. It's a Delano HE/M2 in +- stingray position, but I've got a 4-way rotary switch instead of a regular switch (so it looks just like my volume/balance/tone knobs).

It's really great and I kinda wish I had in on my other basses as well.

Thanks for tip, this has been rolling in my head for some time now, usually I play Jazz basses but I found over the years that I play like 70% bridge pup and 30% neck pup, never together and also MM sweet spot pup's sound is closest to the sound I have in my head and also Ilike simplicity of using only 1 pup but with options offerd via 4-way switch.

Hello Friends can anyone share experience about the tone of a Maruszczyk Elwood L? Specifically the slap tone? I have never played a chambered bass before and I am dubious if they can have a great slap tone. I have tried some other lightweight basses on the market but they have felt lacking. Also do these chambered basses benefit from active electronics? Does the bass lack fundamental low end? Thank you very much for all replies!

Just a thought, you may went to consider looking at the dimensions of the Protec Contego guitar case or the Road Runner RR5TEG Highway Series guitar bag as options to see if they would work, that’s what I use with my headless basses. Smaller in length with a ton of nice storage and great support for the neck. The Road Runner goes on sale frequently for under $100, I have a couple of those in Expresso color.

Looks good, but some quick measurements before a gig tonight and it looks like it's almost 43" in length.

I've got some sturdy gig bags that are fairly solidly built with edges which have done the job so far, but got a couple of longer tours this year that I'd like something a bit more solid for so looking more for a traditional hardcase. So far looks like it'll be too long for baritone guitar cases, too short for standard bass ones.

I think it all depends on the choice of pickups and preamps. I have had a couple of Elwood L's that have had a great slap tone to them. My first Elwood L 30" had Delano Jazz pickups with a Delano 2 band pre and it and it sounded full and the slap tone was very nice. My current 32" 7.4 lb Elwood L Has the Delano P/Humbucker Xtender pickups in it with a Delano 3 band pre and a 3 way switch for the humbucker and it can get a very fat slap tone. Plus it also depends a bit on choice of woods and amplification also I imagine. :thumbsup:

Public Peace is owned by Adrian Maruszczyk, which is based out of Aldenhoven in western Germany, near Belgium. Public Peace is a retail location like Andertons in the UK. Maruszczyk & Mensinger intruments are custom instruments made in Poland at a semi old world Luthier custom shop. I am not sure if Adrian Maruszczyk owns the custom shop in Poland but that is where all the Maruszczyk/Mensinger instruments are made and then shipped back to Germany to be sold at the public peace retail location or distributed to the many dealers around the globe that place custom orders for their shops or clients. Here is a cool video of their custom shop in Poland. :cool:

Dave,

I’m not a slapper (so far) so can’t help you with that, but I do have both chambered and solid-body Elwoods, obviously one active and one passive (both 30”).

I don’t know that I can identify the sound difference that’s due to the chamber, but I can say that with the Delano HB pickups with 3-way switching, along with the Delano 3-band preamp with switchable mids, I’m able to get almost any sound I like out of that bass. These particular electronics produce very wide differences in the tones from various settings compared to other active basses I’ve played (not many).

Randy at Bass Spotlight helped me choose the electronics, among other things. Good experience working with him.

The passive J bass is less versatile, but I love its sounds and I love playing it! It was an off-the-shelf Maru.

I agree with a previous poster that the major sound differences are due to the pickups and pre-amp (or lack of pre-amp). Also strings of course, but these two basses have the same strings.
