The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

Hey Man
Thank you for your swift and useful response.
More real life testimonies on the pickup config are welcome.

You're welcome - I got my Jake with Haussels: Haeussel PB 4 SP for neck and Haeussel JB 4 HB (humbucking J regular pole pieces), I made a couple of recordings with it - but to be honest they're too... Lifeless, I believe? They are too sterille sounding and I was confused while setting both pickups level on maximum while soloing live - volume drop level (that is almost normal for passive PJ's) was so huge that I was scared af)

Still - all mentioned is my IMHO, at the moment I use pup's from Coils Boutique (Israel pups) that I'm pretty happy with - but if there was a chance i'd rather put a P/J set of Seymor Duncan Antiquities's II or would try Lindy Fralin's (here in Russia their price with delivery from USA is just way too big so not and option)

Even better option might be using some sort of humbucker with switch in the bridge - mind Seymor Duncan NYC or something similiar. You can get sound of singles if you want or add meat and grit to your sound - I surely would do it if there was a time machine)

I hear you. I got the Haussels in mine. They are okay, but not what I wanted. I should’ve gone with Nordstrands...they are just SO good.

1 - I've notice that depending on the model (Jake/Elwood) the price of the same pickups is very different, especially in bridge position.
Adding a bridge pickup to a Jake is much more expensive than changing the bridge pickup in an Elwood. Any reason for this?

2 - Is the included gigbag (Standard) is good enough for this great basses or should I spend more for the thicker one (Standard GBBS)?
3 - I've read earlier that a strap could be included with the order, is that correct?

4 - Is there a great difference of weight between Ash body and Swamp ash that would justify the additional cost? I want the bass to be fairly light ( like my Lakland Skyline Deluxe 44-02) around 3.7 kg.
5 - What would be the best tuners for regular and flatwounds strings (1/2 or 3/8)

1. The Jake comes standard with only the P pickup, so routing it for the bridge pickup might cause the extra cost.

2. The gigbags are pretty good quality imho.

3. Straps came with all of mine.

4. Lightweight is possible, ask Adrian.

5. I dunno. Ask Adrian.

I hear you Valerius, loud and clear

Great info. So I guess it would be preferable to get the cheapest pickup then upgrade after.
Coils Pickups sound amazing might be the occasion to check them out.

I've put a Bill Lawrence P46 on my Squier CV 60 P bass, and it's amazing. Sounds full, deep and powerful.
The Dimarzio Model J are quite good too.

Thank you very much

Thanks a lot BassmanM

Still debating with myself if it would not be better to travel to Germany to pay Adrian a visit and receive my bass personally.
Although, this might be dangerous for my marriage :laugh:

I believe that if you discuss it with Adrian he can put whatever pup's you want in your bass. I had to grind my Jake to install Delanos, for example, so it's better to drop him a letter and discuss possibilities. Sadowsky pup's, Bill Lawrence etc. - hope he will order them for you and make a bass that will suit you without upgrades :)

Brilliant Idea!!!

FWIW, my 'Burst Jake PJ had a Haussel P and a humbucking J, and I really liked it. It was round and rich. That said, I run the P solo'd most of the time.

My other Jake PJ has a Maruszczyk P & humbucker setup. That Humbucker is a MONSTER.

Yeah Bass and that!! You're one of great bass players to blame for the current GAS!!!:laugh:
I kind of agree with you, I too prefer the Maruszczyk ones over the Haussels.
Your vids were very informative and helped me a lot.
And your basses are simply gorgeous.

I'm thinking about placing an order for something similar to this. I have a few questions maybe you guys can help with. Don't worry I've sent a few questions along to Adrien as well.

1) The Delano FE pickups seem pretty interesting. Anyone have experience running them passive? I'm not too keen on an active preamp with this bass.
2) What do you guys think about the standard tuners compared to hipshots? I have hipshot tuners on a few basses and they are nice but not really sure they're worth the cost. I've always been perfectly happy with Fender style tuners as well.
3) Would you guys do the carbon rods with a flame maple neck? I've never had a single piece flame neck so not sure if stability would be an issue.
4) Also, any idea the cost to add a transparent finish to the neck? I see it on a lot of their YouTube videos but it isn't part of the configurator.
