Hi experts I also have some questions regarding pickups. I'm interested in this xtender pick up but only in passive mode. Does any of you have samples or reviews on how good they are in all 3 modes (since serial parallel)?
Also is passive frog gonna be lighter than active frog?

Sure, passive is lighter than active by the weight of the preamp. But that's going to be a negligible savings compared to the weight of the rest of the bass. No clue on the pickups, looking at those myself.

I'm thinking about placing an order for something similar to this. I have a few questions maybe you guys can help with. Don't worry I've sent a few questions along to Adrien as well.

1) The Delano FE pickups seem pretty interesting. Anyone have experience running them passive? I'm not too keen on an active preamp with this bass.
2) What do you guys think about the standard tuners compared to hipshots? I have hipshot tuners on a few basses and they are nice but not really sure they're worth the cost. I've always been perfectly happy with Fender style tuners as well.
3) Would you guys do the carbon rods with a flame maple neck? I've never had a single piece flame neck so not sure if stability would be an issue.
4) Also, any idea the cost to add a transparent finish to the neck? I see it on a lot of their YouTube videos but it isn't part of the configurator.

It's all trial and error or success. A pickup that sounds great on one bass may just sound ok on another. I would get the extenders. Problem is if you don't like them, which I doubt, switching them out may not be an option because of the oval routs. I like the sound on all the video demos. I would still go active/passive on the preamp. But you can request it to be wired so it's passive in the normal mode, knob pushed in, and active when pulled out. Or a switch would do the trick. Pretty finish btw. Don't drive yourself nuts with too many options or you'll never be happy.

Personally I'd do dots on the fretboard to fit with the classic look.

I would stay away from the bridge Adrian sometimes uses where you have to loosen the little hex set screw to adjust the saddles like the one Inhad on my Elwood 5. You have to set the intonation by moving it back and forth by hand. Its a real PIA. I'm sure he'll use any bridge type you want

They are fine. I use them and they are pretty light because they have some sort of "cut" in the middle. But have to say that I replaced bridge with Hipshot A-style, stock one is too uncomfortable for intonation adjustment

Yeah I noticed that the standard bridge doesn't have the screws to set the intonation. That's why I went with the heavy one which does have the screws

the Big one seems to be more practical, doesn't it? it does have the intonation screw.

My other thought was to simply put an F style bridge and ultimately upgrade it to a Babicz one. Just Love the Babicz!!!

while i'm no "big fan" of the standard bridge .... unless you plan to handle intonation every 48 hours i wouldn't worry / wonder that much. Standard one more than does the job too ... its on my own bass and works more than fine.

i'd like to point out again the quality of the "standard" hardware he's using (to me , again this is only in my experience and opinion). I don't personally see any point in "upgrading" to hipshot or any sort of "big boy brand" available around.
I told more than once to customers ordering to not put more money into it just for a brand.

"well if you want me to make more money you can, if you ok with just having a bass that stays in tune and plays fine, no.."

Your Honesty is remarkable!!

So the Standard Big it will be. I even removed the Hipshot Tuners and chose the standard Clover tuner.

that will sum up the build to a reasonable price (924 Euro without taxes).
a custom build at this price is unbeatable.

like i said ... some people are OK paying more just for "safety of mind" , in my experience i don't see the point. I guess about half of customers still get hipshot. Depends really.
