There's not one thing about this bass that I hate. The Maruszczyk pickups that it has are probably not the flavor that I would choose for my main instrument but they do have nice tone. The 2-band Delano in it is also cool but a 3-band is going to be more suitable to me. Regarding the feel, quality of construction and appearance? Love those attributes......

Stunning!! I was toying with the idea of getting one just like yours (but a passive one).

Thank you! I love the way it feels and plays. It also sounds great but I'd prefer something with a little more sizzle for my main bass. I think the one being built will give me more of that. In no way am I disappointed though because the character of the bass was described to me before I made a decision to purchase it. It definitely gives me something that I didn't have as I didn't own a 4-string before the acquisition and it also has a more vintage tone than anything else I had in house.

Do you still have the stock strings on your bass? I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for in your bass but a string change to nickel or stainless steel strings (depending on what you have on there) usually drastically changes the sound.

Yep, it's still wearing the stock strings and I know that changing them can have an impact. I have what I want in other basses and I think my new bass that is being built will be more along the lines of what I want as a bass that is more of a main squeeze. Let me be clear. This Elwood 4 sounds good but it just has more of a vintage vibe in my opinion. That's not a bad thing. In fact, I dig it because all of my other instruments are more modern sounding by default. At this point I'm actually considering going ALL in on the Old School tone and putting flats on it. :D

Y'see here's what happened.....

I ordered and payed for the recently arrived Elwood myself when it was ordered months ago.....

In the meantime my wife asked me what I'd like for Christmas and I decided that I'd like to have my Mensinger Joker de-fretted as her gift to me....

So....The Mensinger was sent off to California in good time, we thought, to have the work done and have it back here for Christmas.....

Of course, the best laid plans went arse up when the delivery of my Mensinger to Keith Horne in California was delayed due to the wild fires down there.....

So.....Trying to cut a long story short here....The upshot of all this is that my Mensinger has had the work done but won't be delivered here until this coming Wednesday....Thus making it too late to be given back to me on Christmas day.....

So......My wife applied women's logic to the small problem and decided that she's giving me the bass that's already here for Christmas and the Mensinger work that she paid for is now the bass that I paid for!....

Hope this makes some kind of sense to somebody!....:whistle::laugh:....
