The Official MTD USA Thread

Wow Ace, so you bought thinking you were going to get the MTD pictured in post #3, but you got the Claro Walnut top MTD instead?

I actually prefer the way the MTD you got looks, over the Crotch walnut MTD they showed on their site. By the way, is that normal maple or bird's eye maple? Hahah and I'm still hoping someone lets go of their Ash/Walnut top Ash/Maple board MTD this year :). [I'm not suggesting YOU do that by any means :hiding:, but just really want one since so many people say good things about the combo, but I certainly don't have the means to getting one new ]

Yeah I'm definitely pleased with what I ended up with...........I just hate to think of what would happen to someone and they didn't like the results.......My bass has regular maple on the fingerboard....could've gotten one with a Myrtle burl top that had Birdseye, but I really wanted a walnut top......will definitely let you know first if I stumble across a used MTD with an Ash neck and maple board.........nice try though.......:p

The picture of the one with the Buckeye Burl top is wonderful..........still want an ash body or something else?

i was checking out the
MTD 635 Natural, Crotch African Rosewood/Ebony FB 24 Frets, Mahogany Body, Maple Neck-Ebony FB, on BC. If order from them they better send me whats on the pic. if not am gone show try to get me a couple of free mtd if know what i me. If i got that bass i would have been pist because i was an love with the ash grian figure on the neck and body of the 535 n the pic the one you have might be the same don't know post pic of back. Don't get me wrong any mtd i get i would be happy after playing. when get a chance post sound samples

:hyper: COOL thanks! I probably won't be able to purchase a used one till March or April :crying:, so hopefully NONE show up in the mean time :p.

Yea that would've been no good if it happened to someone else and they didn't like what they got. Hope you enjoy the bass!

These are not the greatest pictures but this is my MTD 5th Anniversary 535. Mike made 5 kept one for himself and this is #2. Plays are sweet as it looks. These and Roscoes are the only ones that give me the "sound that's in my head" kind of vibe. Onl:bassist:y down side is I wished it had 24 frets for my chordal work.

Not mine, unfortunately...

:hyper: here's a pic of my newest mtd (the one on the right). Bought from bass central, ash body/ash neck/birdseye maple board with amazing myrtle burl top.
I found that ash has sweeter high compared to wenge. Wenge has punchier mid though. The bass is definitely a slapper!:bassist:

I checked that bass out myself...........very nice..........how long have you had it?

Nice! :) Soo.. are you considering selling it, or will you consider selling it anytime this year? :hiding:

I just checked the basscentral.com site and it's funny how both your MTD and the crotch walnut MTD Ace was SUPPOSED to get, are still up on the site :eyebrow:. They really need to learn to update their site regularly, especially when basses are sold.

Funny but true, bro...............the minute I bought that bass they said "we're going online to mark that bass as sold right now"......that particular bass was sold some time ago.... the good news is that reguardless of pics, they should have some more Ash body/Ash neck models in soon......doesn't matter if they have pics up on the exact bass or not really...........all you need to know is that Mike made it with his two hands so you know it's gonna be a great bass......I'd still inquire about the pic's accuracy, though.........

Especially at the high end where folks expect accuracy on an advertisement. :rollno:

an update on my jazz 5...i got a couple emails yestereday from mike tobias letting me know the status of my build...everything is cut, carved and routed...the neck is fretted and the body is ready for sanding...it should be getting sent out for finishing by the end of the week and i should have it mid-march...

for anyone that didn't know (like me), the mtd j-basses aren't in production, and i just got lucky...there are a few basses getting built, as mike is trying a few new things, but not as part of his normal production...these are being built around his normal production, so anyone with their name on a j-bass is sitting back seat to the guys with orders for his regular line...cool by me! i've been waiting a little longer than what was originally projected mainly due to some equipment malfunction last fall which has put mike in a pretty deep backlog...everything is still good to roll, though, and it is clear to me now that everyone is making good on what was originally planned...still stoked! i'll keep everyone as updated as i can...i know there are a few guys interested in this mtd j5 i've got coming
