Sorry, totally missed that little snippet because of all the 'bass porn' in that post.

).Yeah, I've played this one as well, as TB'er Saluki used to own it a while back, and he lives fairly close. While it's a slight variance from the original theme, since it has the maple neck instead of the ash neck, I can tell you it still kicks MAJOR a$$. MAJOR. Bottom line is, while the ash neck definitely imparts a bit more in the low mids, all the punch is there, and maybe a slight bit more grind up a bit higher. It'd definitely be splitting hairs to call a fave.I'll play. Here is my ash/walnut/maple/maple 535...

I was just playing mine last night... wow... same thing that keeps happening to me every time I pick up an MTD... it's the same love as when you first got it. That magic never goes away.![]()
I agree. I think in your case, this combo would probably be a better fit than one with an ash neck. Dang that thing kills. If I didn't already "have mine", I'd have to accuse you of being a lucky bastage... ehh, what the heck... YOU LUCKY BASTAGE!Ya, this is one of the best-sounding 535's I have played, for sure. If the ash neck might give more low-mids, then I may be just as happy with this maple neck, as I am quite pleased with the low-mids (disclaimer: I play mostly fingerstyle over the neck pickup).

Hey, what's that in your avatar? Who let you in here?Nice to hear Tom. To my ear the maple neck with the walnut/ash combo is a bit more open and bigger maybe with the ash neck adding a little different focus of the mids. Again splitting hairs. Definetely bigger if you keep playing up there over the neck pickup.
