Vic, your bass is stunning. No other word applies!

Ahh, walnut & maple...with a little ash amongst friends. I love it.

I just thought I'd post a recent action shot with my 435. Those are my kids in front (and yes, that's a mohawk on my son :smug:).

I sometimes get caught up in all those 5-stringers, but man, that 435 (both of my 435's, really) is (are) just a pleasure to play! And the tone was just SLAMMIN' through the GK rig I had at that gig (RB700-II, Neo212, Neo112).

Tom.

I'll play. Here is my ash/walnut/maple/maple 535...

Yeah, I've played this one as well, as TB'er Saluki used to own it a while back, and he lives fairly close. While it's a slight variance from the original theme, since it has the maple neck instead of the ash neck, I can tell you it still kicks MAJOR a$$. MAJOR. Bottom line is, while the ash neck definitely imparts a bit more in the low mids, all the punch is there, and maybe a slight bit more grind up a bit higher. It'd definitely be splitting hairs to call a fave.

I was just playing mine last night... wow... same thing that keeps happening to me every time I pick up an MTD... it's the same love as when you first got it. That magic never goes away. :)

Ya, this is one of the best-sounding 535's I have played, for sure. If the ash neck might give more low-mids, then I may be just as happy with this maple neck, as I am quite pleased with the low-mids (disclaimer: I play mostly fingerstyle over the neck pickup).

I agree. I think in your case, this combo would probably be a better fit than one with an ash neck. Dang that thing kills. If I didn't already "have mine", I'd have to accuse you of being a lucky bastage... ehh, what the heck... YOU LUCKY BASTAGE! ;) :D :D :D :D

I don't really have a comeback to that one. I am pretty damn lucky... And that is a pretty damn good bass! :bassist:

Stop posting this kind of pics NOW as they really re-activate my GAS!!!
What, you mean like the one below? Ok, I won't. ;) BTW, I'm not at all affiliated with Gelb, but it's an ash/walnut ash/maple combo, so it's pertinent... and damn purdy... and still available I think... :)

Nice to hear Tom. To my ear the maple neck with the walnut/ash combo is a bit more open and bigger maybe with the ash neck adding a little different focus of the mids. Again splitting hairs. Definetely bigger if you keep playing up there over the neck pickup;).
