lindseyp, outstanding MTD. The top is really gorgeous and the whole bass has a very unique look. Also, I believe I recall your username from a high-end guitar forum. This bass is going to be a welcome addition to an already great set up.

I'm a member of MTD Non-USA, and now this came in the mail today!

More photos of it here.
I asked Mike to play it for five days before mailing it, he re-strung it afterward; our bass player here is going to break it in some more at choir rehearsal Saturday, hope to get a sound file or two up to share.
Hey, EVERY bass he makes is a special edition! That' a real beaut! What are the specs? and that case, is that a special edition?
"your bass player"? You're not a bass player and you bought a (totally amazing, by the way) MTD 535???I'm a member of MTD Non-USA, and now this came in the mail today!

Actually, it looks like a typically amazing 535.
I'm thinking it's a 535/21 with a spalted quilted maple top on an ash body with a birdseye maple fingerboard on an ash neck.
DOH! Yeah, you were clear, I misread you. Sorry.I was actually referring to the case. It's unlike any case I've seen from Mike.

I had had a blues gig Fri and Sat till 2:00 in the morning, loading gear and getting home at about 4:00. This was WAY too early for me....

Yeah, and I REALLY want to emphasize that that "choke" should NOT be taken generally as a negative. It's strictly dependent on style and preferences... for some folks, that (let's say) attenuation (just to have it a bit less negative sounding) is a very good thing! It worked against me personally, but there's lots of highly qualified folks it works very well for.
bass12, not directed towards you, just a general comment to make sure perspective is appropriate on this.
Nice to have some action on this thread! Beautiful bass, but I'm confused. You say you had Mike play it for five days before he sent it out? ... And then he re-strung it? Why (if I may ask)?
...
I wanted it slightly broken in before I got it. Like someone else said, I've been the main guitard at the new church I moved to, but since Mike said this axe's true sound will take another month or two to reveal itself I'm going to have our (AWESOME) bassist work it out for me.
I noticed my case seems to be unique, according to some of you. It's the first MTD case I've seen so I can't say what was up. That metal piece is a built-in hygrometer in the case near the handle.
I'm one of those guys who loves the Ash/Wenge combo. My 635 is Ash/Maple burl with a Wenge/Wenge neck. I've played a ton of MTDs in that combo and it just sings.

Not sure if the facebook links work unless you're 'befriended...
My MTD 635-24 fretless is very very woody, organic, and aggressive sounding...absolutely gorgeous bass, the best I've played, and I've played fretless since 1978.
Cheers,
Cameron
Mahogany body, flamed redwood top, maple neck, ebony fretboard. Mr. T. says that this is his ultimate fretless combo, and that it is his most 'versatile' bass he has ever built - can mimick slap sound without actually slapping. A lot of players come up to me after a gig and say - 'wow, THAT'S a fretless?' They couldn't actually tell because it has so much attack and presence.
Cheers,
Cameron
Ah, I see. Well, all I can say is that you might have a hard time getting your bassist to give you that bass back once he's gotten his hands on it...![]()
... . IMHO, the wenge "choke" is least prevalent when playing over the neck pickup and more prevalent when playing over the bridge pickup, but that might be just how I roll...![]()
