The Official MTD USA Thread

Happy New Year, everyone!

And a bit of threadworthy news - it looks like I might be returning to the MTD USA flock pretty soon. Sold my first ash/ash MTD 535-24 to a mate a while back and have always regretted it, but he wants to return to 4-strings, so I'm actually going to buy him something more suitable (Elrick Evolution 4) and trade it back. :) In the meantime, I tried an ash/walnut, ash/maple model, but that didn't sounds as good as my old one, so I figured it makes sense to give the old girl another chance and get that MTD smile back on my face. :)

Cheers,

EG
That's the spirit, old boy! A new year, an old MTD. Out of curiosity, what was the exact wood combination of that first 535?

It was ash body, maple burl top, ash neck, macassar ebony board. (With a lovely Mac ebony shim in the neck pocket.) The bass had the typical big/open sound of ash, but a bit more bite and strength in the top-end, compared to ash/maple. Probably better for rock than funk, but easily tightened up with some 2K EQ cut.

WOOHOO! I just got my previous MTD 535 back tonight, it's still looking good and feeling great! The action has been dropped super-low and it currently has an ebony finger-rest block thing between the pickups, so I''ll have to decide whether to keep it that way.

Mmm, it sure would look good sitting next to a Stockton Blueburst..... :p

Cheers,

EG

We got a few pics... we're having a few technical difficulties getting the rest of the pics up, but hopefully soon!

LOL! Yeah, I plan on "kicking the tires" a bit, so to speak. Hopefully, we'll have some more pics up soon.

Mike had some really killer basses this year. That spalted mango top on the Jazz Bass was off the hook! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Took a screenshot of Glenn's site when I bought it :D

Tom, I just want to reiterate something I typed elsewhere:
The past two issues of Bass Gear Mag have been off the charts! Great job to the entire staff.

Here is a nice clip of Gouche, Peric and Bubby jamming at the MTD booth ( I'm not sure if it was posted)

Anyone know what bass peric is playing? Looks like the J model Michael tobias does with a 535 body and extended cutaway? Are my eyes decieving me? Anyone have info on these?

Jon

PS: peric's slap technique is FRESH! I'm also digging bubbys new bass!
