The Official MTD USA Thread

Hey kids;
New 535 owner here. It's Vic's fault; I can't tell you how much money befriending him has cost me...

Grats, Chef! That is going to be a sweetheart of a 535, for sure!

And yes, Vic is a very bad influence. I think I may be rubbing off on him... :ninja: :smug: :D

Hey Chef,

I'm glad you got the bass you wanted. I was having too much trouble letting mine go, so we both win!

Take Care,

Bob

This one is coming to me from tb'er dabass. It's about 3 months old...ash/walnut + ash/maple. Fedex shows am delivery tomorrow!

rcolie: reckon it worked out ok for both of us;)

it's here, it's beautiful.
the action is just way lower than my double bass biased hands are good with.
but, i have the spec sheet, and it reads very much like how i set mine up...at ~ 1/16 off the board, so, that should be easy.

So far, using my little LDS 2x8+ horn cab (which is kinda like an old SWR Baby Blue Studio reference monitor, but with a horn instead of mid driver), I like what I hear with both the F1 and Walkabout. With the M6/UL410....jeez...I bet that works well;)

Well sir, I've got the setup about where it needs to be, which for me ends up being just a little lower than the factory setup sheet. I want to hear a little of those rounds bouncing off the board. Before, it was all strings on the board, and no real notes;) Renato (dabass) must have a much lighter touch than I do.

It'll be next week before I get it in a band setting. By nature, this is even a step more modern than any of my Sadowsky stuff. I'm curious to see how it works out for me.

My Alleva LG5, even with brand new AC stainless strings on it, seems positively dark by comparison;) Guess it would though!

Congratulations! I'm definitely anxious to hear your thoughts. Interesting comparison to the Sadowsky - I've often thought the same, even against my M5-24, which is arguably about as "modern" as things get. :D

That's a beautiful bass and I'll look forward to the full book report.

Posted this in the 'amp' forum too, but this weekend I played the MTD with one of my new Bergantino HT112ER cabs. Oh. My.

I hate this thread....

You're a lucky man; count your blessings everyday.

Coupla quick notes:
with a setup that's more my style, this thing plays like buttah!

The on board eq is really flexible. No, it ain't a Mouse or nothing, but I can make it sound pretty good playing Patsy Cline and some other old country stuff I'm having to work up right now.

And when you got to put the zing back in it, man, "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder is really fun on this bass.

Also: it sounds really good thru cabs with mid drivers and no horn, really smoothing the top end out nicely. The LDS 2x12+2x6 is wonderful with this bass.

Aaaand: I really like the finish. That the whole bass "feels like wood" is really neat!

Nice playing. I love how the tone just cuts through. You can always tell it's an MTD. How does Mike do it? I love these basses!!!!

@vic:

I been messin' with the 535 b/t chores.
The eq is really pretty deep, very usable, and probably has more combinations than I can readily make sense of;)

It has "a bit of that MusicMan scoop" I've never been able to tolerate with any MM product.
I presume the stock strings are SS. I see MTD does offer nickels, and I wonder if those "fill some of that scoop," or if that's a case of me "trying to make the bass do something against it's character?

I can't wait to take it to work. I got nothing this week, and four nights next week.
