My wife took this picture with a technique she calls "light painting". She takes the picture in complete darkness, tapes up the end of a flashlight to let only a small amount of light through, and actually paints the thing with it for a minute or so using short bursts of light. I think It turned out cool!!!

Um, wow.

I know this is from a ways back in the thread, but I've been GASing for one of the Ibanez SR 1405/1205's more than anything ever before... for a while now. Very nice!

Hehe Of course not.

Feed the string through the bridge and pull it up through towards the headstock until it's resting against it's designated tuning post. Cut off any excess string, leaving around 3 inches past the tuning post.

Insert the tip of the string down into the hole in the centre of the tuning post. Then bend the string to the side so it rests in the groove at the top of the tuning post.

Then when you tune up, make sure that the string winds down the post so it gives extra stability in the nut.

Yeah, I didn't get it at first but after watching this video it all made sense:


I guess I was oblivious to those hole inserts where the ends of the strings go, I'm such a derp! Back in my late teens (read- just a year ago) I had too much angst for wanting my own dream bass and buying pedals/equipment to get the tone I wanted, that I never took the time to think about how to string a bass properly. I've had to replace so many broken strings and I think I've found the reason why, so THANK YOU for bringing that awareness to me, as that is something I probably never would have done on my own.

And please clean it too. You have a very nice instrument and if you do so it will look so much better and last longer. Remove that ugly plastic from the pickguard and clean off the dust around the pickup. You can use compressed air for that. You know the one you clean computers with.

You are definitely right, I didn't realize how long it's been since I last cleaned that bass and with currently having a broken amp (it pangs me each day), it's just been sitting there collecting dust. Once I find the time I'll buy one of them air compressors and do a thorough job, in the meantime a rag/special screen cleaning cloth will have to do. I guess I should go ahead and remove that ugly plastic, it's just the guy I bought it from (at Bass Northwest) told me to keep it on until it peels naturally, but it's been going on 6-7 months since I've owned the bass now so I guess it's time to show off that naked pick guard

I think these are all basses he used to own and has since sold.

Thought I would jump on the bandwagon here and post some pictures of two of my basses. I have been meaning to post these and more but, well, I'm lazy and didn't want to dig up where I hid the pictures. I have lots of pictures of me playing the basses but these are the only eye candy shots I have .

And by the way, I like the Belgian in your avatar. I used to work with a big tough guy who looked a lot like yours when I was in the military. He was a beast and not high strung at all. I only weighed 145 lbs at the time and he weighed about 90. Duco was his name. Mr. Duco to everyone else..

My new Squier with my Yamahs BB425 . You can see the neck on the Yamaha is narrower but the Squiers neck is fairly flat so it's not hard on the left hand at all for me . I like it .
