Model # SB602, made in Westerly RI in 1988. I got this in a very cool trade deal for my SWR Triad cab... really I was looking for a different cab, and only looked into the bass as an offer because it seemed interesting, and just not expected. Last time I'd played a Pilot was back in '93 I guess, in my hometown of Westerly in fact. It was a good time playing that bass, which belonged to a friend of a friend at some jam in someone's house...

I'm still not sure if it's staying. I've got other needs and so far it seems just a little superfluous- but it's pretty, plays well, and I like the EMGs. With a set of LaBella FL-760s on it it does a nice voice, and I think I should give it a chance before moving it on. I'll get by without selling it for a while anyway, and if I end up digging it very much I'll just thin the quiver some other way.

It was a 1983. I've been chewed alive and spat out over this, and in fact I had reservations after I'd finished it, but I've come to like 'er quite a bit since. 1983 Hamer Cruise, my chop-job. Still sounds stellar, plays like a dream, and with a new haircut:

2 weeks ago, I received the Steinberger Synapse 5-string body&neck that I found on the web for 99 dollar. The description said that the truss rod was stripped. Luckily, only the truss nut was damaged, so this was fixed easily with a new nut. I put home made tuners + bridge + string clamps on it. The pickup is an EMG 40HZ. I added a rotary switch that can do all 4 wiring combinations of the pickup: neck coil, parallel, series and bridge coil. The sound is great. As expected with a pickup at MM-position, it's similar to a Stingray, but more transparant and brighter than expected. Although it doesn't have a preamp, it's brighter than my active basses. You can hear a Invalid Link Removed. I'm used to basses with J-J pickups, so I also added a finger ramp in front of the EMG. Another great thing about this bass is the perfect balance and the low weight. My left shoulder is happy! Ned Steinberger is a genius :-)

Very nice. Do you know if he does anything for the 55-64 Skylines? I'm not in love with my standard white guard, I have a maple neck and I was thinking about getting a simpler gold anodized, kind if like the 57 P, but for a 5 string Lakland.

Love this one to bits. Sworn I'll never sell it. Now if only I could get a pre-Gibson Basic and a fretless, I'd be a happy camper. Buuuut I'll guess I have to look for replacements elsewhere.
