Just got this off FB Marketplace. Cleaned up to absolute mint condition. Not a mark on it. Shimmed the neck to get the action to where it needed to be, black pick guard screws, and black strap buttons, new strings, fresh setup….Seymour Duncan Alnico PUP en route. Blacking out the guard seems to make the bass appear canary yellow, despite it described as butterscotch. Sound is adequate. Expecting dramatic improvement with the Duncan Alnico.

Nice bass. I had an '06 Fender '51P RI in that same 'butterscotch' colour - I called it 'mustard'.
I know I'm addicted to guitars in general but I think I have a major addiction for a certain series of basses. earlier today I was trawling the net for bargains but not really searching for anything in particular when I saw a Cirrus BXP advertisted on the Cash Convertors website for £200 (while I was weighing it up using my usual argument i it's better to ask forgiveness than permission, I suddenly thought to myself, wait a minute I'm a widdower - I have no to seek forgiveness from - except my bank manager).
I was just about to click buy it now when a friend phoned me, while we were chatting I told her about the BXP when she said to me "there's a couple of early Grinds at Richtone in sheffield for about the same price. I only their website and go to the 2nd hand basses - sure enough they have 2 grinds listed (£250 each which is probably at the top of their prices from what I've seen) I suddenly realize that it's actually 1 Grind & 1 C-4. decision made.
She looks to be in pretty good shape, now I just to wait till Tuesday for her to arrive. The one slight confusing factor is all 3 of the C series I have feature Bubinga wings whereas this one seems to tally in with the Peavey Europe listing found through the internet achive C4C5 whch basically states the bodies were Pine with Rosewood veneers. @kodiakblair your the resident Peavey guru (I'm assuming the specs changed slightly through the run with the bubinga models being towards the end and the transition to the Grinds.

Inspired by the Cirrus series, the C series model is offered in 3 variations. Two 4 string basses (bolt-on neck end neck through) and one 5 string version (neck through).
The necks are crafted from maple and mahogany and the bodies are made of pine and eastern rosewood with a nice and smooth oil finish. Each material has been selected to give the C-4 a warm and deep sound. Particular attention has been paid to the shape and finish of the neck to give the bassist maximum comfort, fantastic sounds and unmatched playability on this type of instrument.
The C-4 are powered by two Peavey design humbuckers combining a high output with a very low string damping for maximum sustain.

It can state all it likes, even with Peavey's cavalier attitude to naming species of wood, nothing pine ever made production.
FMIC can use pine and get away with by playing the nostalgia card, the folks in NY (something St Guitars) can use pine as they charge $2k and upwards; anyone else would get slaughtered by the media

Any idea what the center wood might be? I don't think it's maple as it's more orange than the maple used for the neck.
Well first thing you have to appreciate is there's 132 species of maple, most of them native to Asia.
There was nothing to stop the factory using Canadian Hard Maple stringers in the neck and another species for the wings, Canadian is quite heavy so a poor choice for the body. Then there's the spec for the C-series, it's pretty varied.
My C-5 had solid wings.
As did my friend Gillian's
While another friend, Erek over in Germany, had veneer caps on his two 4 strings. Pretty sure the far right has an Alder core and I'd guess so does yours'
Alder would make sense, like you say maple would make the guitar too heavy. My other 2 C-4's both have solid wings whereas my C-5 has flame maple veneers.

Okay 28 is nearly finished. I got a bass guitar kit as a Wedding Anniversary/Christmas gift from my wife and children.
I had plans to make it unique since it maybe dare I say my last one. I never built a kit before but was excited about making it my own. The kit came from Thomann Music and it was their latest one which as you will see is a Musicman stye bass
here is the bass. My daughter and I worked for hours on the finish. and I still need to finished the headstock.
I will be demo it on my Youtube channel in the near future and yes happy to report everything works

Okay so the latest member of my Peavy C series family has arrived and she's better than I hoped for, very minor playing marks - mostly on back but nor really noticable less your looking for them the colour is fantastic and I thought already loved the sound of these basses but this one is something else. The previous owner had added push/push pots to the volume and tone to make the pickup's coil tapped, when tapped she really sings.

Gee-Jay cabinet with 12” Olson S-550 4 way speakers. They sound amazing!
