That body looks looks right but you have original thumbrest screws above the pickguard and new ones below. It's probably late 74+ just to be picky. The alder looks right. Do you have pin dowel holes on the back? Leave it just the way it is, no finishing, tort guard and the rosewood neck. Eventually find a set of 1960 stacknob pickups. I don't know if I could pay 4-5 grand for a neck. the Brazilian rosewood is putting them out of reach and the maple necks aren't any cheaper. I had a couple no name necks and I just printed out some period correct spagetti logos and steel wooled the back a bit.

That must be one of the first to (finally) be delivered - so I'm curious as this is the closest thing to a gen1 Gibson T-bird RI (which has never been made). I see the jack side-mount also - at least they got the wider bridge on there. Looks good otherwise - how does it sound?

Sounds just like you'd expect, like a Thunderbird IV but with an edge. I personally like that they side mounted the input jack rather than putting it on the front, it makes the bass cleaner IMO.

My Chris Larkin Syra Bass. I have back problems, and I needed a lighter bass. Chris had to do a bit of convincing regarding the headless! But he was right, and it's beautifully balanced. Only problem is that the bandleader loves the sound of Fenders, but he doesn't have to wear one on a three hour gig, but a P bass the weight of this (about 7lbs) would be nice!

View attachment 2779191 Here’s mine! I love this bass!! SB4! A nice black and maple. I got it used and had to remove the previous owner’s DNA. Frets were perfect the factory had done a great job. Polished all the light scratches out and set it up. The pickguard was badly warped so I soaked it in hot water and then ironed out the wrinkles. I used an electric griddle on low as my ironing board placed the iron on low heat and put the pickguard between baking sheets. Be careful not to overheat the pickguard. Better to use a baking sheet like you would find in baking food.

What are the holes at the end of the fingerboard for? Soundholes for a tone chamber or something? It is a really beautiful instrument - I had a much less curvaceous fretless with side-lines similar to that once!

Truss rod adjustment access (adjustable with strings in tune) - which I never had to touch in 20 years - located at the 27th fret(less) position - - - a place I rarely touch unless I want to sound like Ravi Shankar

Picked up my MIM Jazz Bass Deluxe Series active pup RED bass with red tortoiseshell pick guard and more knobs than I know what to do with; $250 layaway at GC. With my 'tin' ear and 3-months bass learning I sure didn't trust my buying instincts but my nerves were unnecessary. It sounds great, is easier to play and makes me sound better. So, stoked! The ergonomics seem similar to my Ibby but offset therefore sexier. And RED!
Thought I might keep my DIY beater Ibanez, 'Old Black Lazarus'. But after playing and hearing this one's sweet sound-

high school donation for my 1st love Ibanez GIO Soundgear, let the kids fix-or-repair-daily.

I'm lurking in Ed Friedland's great HLBM thread and learning lots, a total tab slave and wannabe on HL Fastrack book 1, A minor scale, Bass Boogie, Rockin Riff lesson.
This is a way better bass than I deserve so I have to try to live up to it. Love the site, check it too often. Now I must practice.

Bass #14 in the house; Squier VM PV. Not a whole lot to do to this one. Added a Hipshot Kickass bridge, hipshot string trees on the head, some Dunlop straplocks, and a set of D'addario Chromes. Can't believe how good it sounds.
