Argh I can’t get away from this envy-inducing beauty!

The smallest bass with the biggest bass, what a cool comparison. A TRB6 is still on my GAS list after a decade or longer. Love to see them in the wild.

first picture was with my previous set up.
It is a 1993 Fender Precision with Epic Custom Shop pickup and a 0.1 uF capacitor.
Also a custom AliExpress bass with Epic Custom Shop pickups, Darkglass 3 band preamp and schaller bridge.
In the back there’s my Schecter Damien 5, which may eventually get new pickups and preamp, still haven’t decided to allocate funds for it.
I have since got rid of the Squier and got a D’Mark Omega 5, which should be arriving later this week.

I'd bet you're loving those Lightnin' Rods. I found an excellent deal on a used P/J set on Reverb and snatched them up about 2 years ago. I have them in one of my Model T's. I'd been wanting to try them to see how they compare to the Pro Actives and the Vintage Active EQ models. I really am impressed with them. I describe the Tone/Dynamics as "Vintage Passives on Steroids". They do have the extended Low frequency range you'd expect from an Active Pickup but the Highs are a bit rolled off and not as harsh as most Active pickups. The dynamics are much more like a Passive pickup than most of the Active Pickups I've used over the years.
I went with EMG's version of a "Vintage Voice and Look" for my 2019 MIM Fender G.L. Jazz, the JVX Set. They use Alnico 5 Magnets instead of the Ceramic magnets but have very similar characteristics to the Lightnin' Rods. I don't have a lot of use for Bridge pickups for the Tones I love and use for the Rock and Blues I enjoy playing, so a noiseless pickup is essential in the Jazz Bass. If I get another Jazz I'll probably go with whatever I can find cheaper as I'm certain that either would be awesome.
I concur with your description of the pups. Vintage with attitude. These pups would like flat wounds no doubt. I’m putting flatwounds on my MIA Fender Jazz with Apollo pups and upgraded 920D custom wiring with stacked pots. They sound great to my ears but, I'm long time Split Coil P-Bass guy who finally got his 1st Jazz Bass a year and a half ago after playing Bass for 30 years. The JVX Set was a big improvement over the stock MIM Geddy Lee Jazz Bass Pickups IMO but I don't have a lot of experience w/ Jazz Basses. I really don't use the bridge pickup much at all. To me, running both the pickups together just muddies up the tone of the neck pickup. I would guess it's the phase difference/cancellation happening between them. I'm so use to the Tone of a split coil in the sweet spot. With the noiseless active you can use a single Jazz pickup with loads of gain/distortion if ya need to and not have to fight the Hum/Noise.
here is the Bass VI DIY i just completed. and all 3 of my current ones. Ibanez micro, DIY baritone, and DIY Bass VI before it was finished.

Where did you get that? I had a bass just like that, that I defretted in college in 1998. When I became a music teacher 2003, I kept it in the band room. When I left the school in 2007, I accidentally left it at the school. A couple years later I asked the new principal if they still had it and it was gone. I was offering to buy them a brand new bass in exchange for it, because it was my first ever bass.
Out of curiosity, can you somehow trace that bass back to Alabama? That is where I live and where the school is where I left it. I've always wondered where my bass ended up. So I'm curious the story behind your bass. I'm not trying to get it back, just curious if this is the one.
My bass had a chip on the top edge of the body where you'd rest your arm. Also it had an Ibanez molded case with a broken latch.
I traded a Korg handheld tuner for it, even trade (and the tuner had been given to me!)
Pretty sure that it's not the one from Alabama! This one seems to have very Connecticut vibes, and no chips on the body. This has a period correct thin black case, not the earlier eighties brown chainsaw style or a molded case. No chip, just some cool JUXTAPOZ stickers that I took off the bass and stuck on my be-stickered pickup truck cap. It's a really great bass under all the chipped up defret work, I can see why you miss yours! They're out there, and undervalued. Hope you find another!
