I'm actually slowly falling in love with this bass.... I am finding out it has tons of balls compared to my Roscoe, and it is considerably lighter. I think I may just hold onto it a bit longer than a day...;)
Glad to hear you're warming up to it, but really, whatever works best for you is whatever is best. I just wish I had the money for this bass if you do let it go, but that just ain't happnin right now. :( (VERY) thankfully, I have one already so it's not a huge problem tho. :)

Just make sure you have decent strings and a decent setup going on before you officially decide one way or another, and per your original plans, DEFINITELY at least rehearse, and at best gig, with it.

Also take a little time to learn the preamp. It takes a little getting used to that the bass is boost only and it's perfectly normal (and sometimes best) for it to be all the way "down" (which is NOT attenuated).

Feel free to PM me (or other Skjolders) if you want more info, otherwise, just experiment with it. Whatever.

really, the newest preamp is boost only? I think I like the boost/cut capabilities I have with mine? But..it is a very rare occasion that I cut the bass or treble.
No, the Custom preamp is (and always has been) boost-only on the bass control. What's confusing is, it's detented, but that's actually "boosted half way to max"... that's NOT "zero". "Zero" is with the ring turned all the way down.

That bass certainly looks killer although I've not played it - if I didn't have a new one in the current batch (which will have a SICK spalted maple top that Pete & I picked out today) I'd be seriously tempted to snap it up before you come to your senses.

Spend some time with it and see what it can do - particularly in the context of a gig/live performance. Then if you still don't like it - let it go.

My $.02, of course... :)

Hey all,
I am out of town and not able to check Internet that much.

Tom, I played your bass on Friday at Pete's shop. It just SINGS!! I don't even think you need the preamp, it sounds THAT good by itself. The ebony board is VERY responsive - it has great sustain and tone all over...and I think Pete is lowering the string height for even more rediculous playability.

Man, you're going to love it!

Wow, is this ebay auction for real?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Skjold-Early-Pr...oryZ4713QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Being that I haven't a good idea about the used marked value of these basses, I'm not sure what fair offer would even be for this bass. However, $5000???? Is it really worth that much?

That bass is a nice bass but what makes it special is what it represents in terms of how I have developed as a luthier and where my designs have been refined and remianed the same .
It is the first one ever sold to a customer and is also the first six string completely made in Vegas . It is one of only five basses made at that time . It is more of a collectors item in the grand scheme of things . It is not often that you can find # 1or 2 of a particular maker . I think you could buy a new one and be happier with it but this is a one of a kind . Thats why the seller put that price on it . What does a "one of a kind # 2 jazz bass go for ?? Is it worth it ? Who knows ,

I just build them :D

Pete

Well, I'll be damned.... There just might be something to this Skjold thing....I played the bass at rehearsal tonight, and I am much happier with the tone than I expected to be. Much more so that this bass overtook my Roscoe on my list. Now, I've already got a jazz bass on steriods, but this Skjold just takes it to a whole new level. More of a review to come later.

Wow, glad to hear it! Pete said that you are VERY picky about fretless setup and playability, so I really appreciate your endorsement. :)

I should have the fretless today! :hyper::hyper::hyper:

LOL! Get in line... :) Of course Tom changed his to some idiot sports guy for a while...
:hiding:

Actually, I'm looking at Toms skjold logo avatar, and I'm thinking to myself "that looks awfully familiar"...Well, I brought my bass to work with me today, took it out and compared it to your avatar, and it is the exact same one!

Where did he get such a good pic of it?

How about this one? Even has transparency... made this one myself from the badge on my Pro. :)

Just decided I liked my flying bass one a bit better... :)
