Ok, so honest opinion... do these go together? You have to imagine both with wood pickups and custom knobs on the Walnut one, too... :D I'm seriously considering it, if a couple things pan out...

Well, I just never like to close the book unless I have all my ducks in a row and I've played the instrument. :) I'm close, but really the only thing I can call a lock at this point is I'll have a Custom next, and it'll be current pricing...

Hey Matt, I figure the Walnut one is really similar in tone/playability to your quilted maple model. How would you compare those two, and also the Walnut one to my PSD5 (noting of course the PSD5 has a totally diff preamp of course)?

Vic, I think the walnut bass has a bit less compressed sound due to the morado board instead of ebony on Matt's quilted maple bass. Its more open and airy, but with all the greatness of mahogany at the same time. And to top its off, I think its my favorite out of this batch asthetically.

And, just an aside, my current bass in the works is ash with a maple board. My next one will be mahogany with a wenge board. I think an ash and a mahogany body pair would pretty much cover any tone in the book IMO. The fingerboards being the nudges in one direction or another tonally we each prefer.

Well, since I am now the proud owner of this bass (Vic and I are really one person :p), I thought I'd post this here as well:

It is currently on its way back to Pete to have the pickup routes deepened. I must say, while not normally a huge fan of the "EMG tone", in this bass, I just love the EMG pickups and preamp! It has that great Skjold clarity and tonal balance behind the punchy growl of the EMGs. I really dig it! Though certainly, a bass equipped with Pete pickups/preamp would definitely be even more clear, transparent, and open sounding.
