Killer, if you ask me! It has a nice attack to each note, but is still tonally well-balanced and a great blend of clean and full. A little bit of "EMG tone" thrown in for good measure, but it does not get in the way, at all (as I have heard EMGs do in some othre basses). The EQ seems to work really well with that bass, too.

So I'll be evaluating this bass. If I decide it's "me", then Pete and I will be doing wood pickups and custom knobs (of course). The pickups will be more of the flamed walnut, but imagine the knobs with a flamed walnut body, then a matching lighter lam to the layer between the top and body, and an ebony cap. That will help continue to marry the brown theme of the bass with the black hardware. I think that might look ok. :) Close your eyes and picture it... I am...

Vic, ash is a great body wood (which I presonally like very much), but as you know, I have a fondness for mahogany. I think that you are really going to dig this bass! :hyper:

And if you don't, well then, of course, you would be a putz. :p

I dont think you should do Walnut pickup covers. I think Morado to match the board for the pickup covers and for the knob caps (instead of Ebony - why Ebony, there isnt any Ebony on the bass?). Just my opinion anyhow.

Actially, the FB is Pao Ferro, not Morado. The Ebony is to match the hardware. I should note that the Ebony will not be the usual mac Ebony... it'll be dark stained to look like Gabon so it'll be totally black. I hear what you're saying on the pickups, but I thought Matt's quilted Maple (matching his top) looked really cool. My problem with Pao Ferro on the pickups is, I don't think that'd look good either when I picture it in my head. I'd think on this bass it's all about a direct match or a good contrast... maybe even ebony cap'd walnut to continue the knob theme and extend the marriage of black/brown on the body.

Anyway, good thoughts, that's why I posted, plenty of time to finally decide.
