The official Skjold Club thread!

OK, everyone...the answer to the question nobody asked. I finally have a couple sound samples of my Skjold. Both of these were recorded direct to my Fostex MR-8, no effects.

This one is fingerstyle, with the tone control just about wide open (the bass is passive). The pickup selector is set to blend parallel.

This is a miserable little slap thing. Again with the pickup selector on blend parallel, this time with the tone control rolled off just a touch.

On the whole I am very pleased with the tone - it certainly sounds more exciting live and through a rig than through your PC speakers. I may or may not have the preamp added; I go back and forth daily on that.

This is my first thread foray on TB and I'm tickled "spanish cedar" to do it here. As a result of reaching a milestone B'day that I'm celebrating and literally feeling the enthusiasm about these basses ooze off' the screen every time I surf TB, I've decided to treat my self to the Skjold experience(you only live once- in this body...?) by giving JZucker's Skjold Spanish Cedar 6'er a new home.lt is enroute as you read.

Welcome Samjay, and congrats! You made a very wise move. That is a killer sounding bass you have acquired, and judging by how all the Pete's basses feel, it probably smokes to play as well.

Will, that bass sounds great! I thought for sure you had a little bass boost dialed in until I read that it is a passive axe. :D

Got any clips with the pickups in series?

Tom.
Thanks! I was thinking of doing a multi-track having a little of each pickup option in it. Sort of like something Andy DeWitt would do. The series tone is totally different than the parallel tone, for sure.

You would be SCM #20, my friend, and when you get that bass, I can't imagine you being anything but elated.

Do you know anything about the preamp? There's a LOT going on there. Here in this post I try to cover it briefly but effectively...

SCM# 20. I'll take it; that's a good no. for me.... Well my elation starts tomorrow(EDA). For now I'm just excited!

Thanks for the link to the preamp post. I'm sure I'll refer to it again once the bass is in my hands.

Thanks Basso for the warm welcome and the reassurance on the move. I tell my friends just because I'm from MS don't mean I'm e-x-t-r-a slow.;)

Glad to hear this bass has a killer sound; limited to no experience with Spanish Cedar. I'm really looking forward to playing this bass.Hear the tone and feel is butta! Maybe I can get some Skjold strings to make it complete. Does Pete still have that trial offer price(or b'day price) going on his strings for first-timers?:hyper:

The trial strings were shipped to him as loose strings with no packaging, so I'm not sure if he has any more, but if he does, he'll hook you up. Just call/email him. Otherwise, if they're all gone and he's only going to get packaged sets from now on, I might be able to hook you up... I have two sets and will probably only need one set to decide to start getting them in 3 packs ongoing. :)

Just let me know if Pete is able to hook you up or not.

Thanks Vic! Pete e-mailed first and stated he can hook me up and offered his services. Now that's service. I'm feeling the love! Just called the house from work; no bass yet.:(

Dude, I feel yer pain... well, I did, but my bass just got here... :p (sorry, had a moment of cruelty)... :)

Seriously tho, I'm sitting on pins and needles here as well, 'cause I love hearing about first time Skjolders... :D

Sweet! A1 all the way!

This is the line that concerns me. Actually, it's the three dots. It's like foreshadowing. Is there Skjold gas in my future? Will I be like you (Vic)and Tom. One hit and hooked for life! Must ------ have-------- more...

Don't be afraid... it only hurts until you plug it in and hear that tone again... :D

I have already made up my mind - for my gig tonight I'm only taking my Skjold and my new MXR M80 (Thanks Vic! It's awesome!). It is an orchestra gig (musical theater), so I don't really need a rig. My only hope is that the DI works even without the pedal engaged...

It does. It's a real DI. :) Enjoy!
