Yeah, the Lion's Pride design really pushed me off the fence. I really think Pete has something there - and the renderings do NOT show the tapers and "sculpting" on the cutaways that Pete has in his head.

And there are a couple of people that really kept hounding Pete to build a "jazz" inspired bass, even though he didn't wat to at first. !!

I'm really looking forward to my LP 5string. It's gonna be rockalicious!!

Did a dinner gig Tuesday night in a piano trio covering everything from "Mood Indigo" to "Can't Get Enough" (it really worked) and in between.

My Skjold 6, affectionately known as the Bubinga Monster, simply killed.

This bass does it all - I took the solo on "Let It Be" and the highs were astounding - I mean, people put down their forks and drinks to listen to this thing. I was amazed - I ran my EQ the same as always - a slight bump to the low mids, lows slightly rolled off - except for a slight bump to the highest highs for some sparkle. Absolutely fan-freaking-tastic. In addition, I had plenty of lows and mids to spare, and we jammed out "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" and "Round Midnight" for several extra minutes because it sounded so good and was grooving so hard. The pianist made a comment during the first break about how she wasn't going to worry about her left hand for the rest of the show.

Thanks Pete. The Bass still rules. It was a great gig and I'm still feeling good a couple days later.

No, MINE RULES! ;)

Ok, seriously tho, G, I KNOW what you mean! There's not a gig goes by with my Skjold Pro that I don't feel completely at peace with my tone. And if you knew me, that's saying a LOT all by itself (hey, if you aren't a killer player, at least have killer tone so folks will let you stay in the band!) :)

This is true for me playing everything from mellow stuff like church ensemble psalms, The Eagle's "Desperado", and Eric Clapton's "Wonderful tonight" to Motown stuff, to Pat Benetar's "Hit me with your best shot" and Joan Jett's "I love rock and roll", to Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck woman" and even the butt-scootin' doggie song (hey, folks still line dance around here).

I even sat in with a Jazz combo not too long ago, and EVERYBODY in the combo asked me what that bass was and commented how great it sounded... yeah, even the horn players.

All this tone in a package the balances perfectly on a strap, weighs under 8 pounds, has a neck profile to die for, and is absolute eye-candy to boot.

I put one question to you... how the heck does it get any better than that???

OK, you can now add me to the list of happy Skjold owners.

I picked up my new bass from Pete last Saturday. I have "wanted" one for a long time so I bought this on a total whim. I was not able to spend any significant time with it until the following day at a 4 hour rehearsal.

Quite simply put, this thing absolutely kills in every respect. I was a bit hesitant to get another 35 inch scale bass after owning a Lakland DJ5, it always felt cumbersome to me, but there is no comparison.

Congrats man! I have seen that bass 100 times but I'm sure others would love to see a pic. Isn't it on Pete's website?

The color of the bass is much better in person and it contrasts nicely with the black hardware.

I have to admit that I am a "traditional Fender" body style kind of guy. Very few custom made or exotic shaped basses appeal to me. Petes design is the exception. To me the shape is somewhat organic but very ergonomic.
