Pako, your new Skjold and one of my MTDs could almost be sisters with that incredible maple burl. I LOVE that look!!! So tight and highly figured, but not many voids. Voids can be cool, but I really like this look. Are you gonna' just finish it totally natural, or will it have some color and/or color scheme to it like a burst or something?

No burst, although Pete said he would add a bit of darker tint to the finish. Not working with the wood on a daily basis, I asked him "What would look best?" and that was his response. Can't wait to see it in person.

Awesome. Yeah, I know exactly what he's saying. He's just going to add a little... just enough to (what he'll say) make the grain "pop". It'll be STUNNING. Trust me... no... trust Pete.

Pictures are courtesy of Matt's sale thread, and please excuse (or at least understand) the poor video/audio quality of the link to the video. The band pictures during the show last night are definitely "abstract art", but I think everyone will get the idea:

O.K. - to get to the video - go to "my" myspace page at Link Removed and click on videos....it's the Jazzbones clip (the others are two years old, ha!). Again, the audio quality is courtesy of a tiny Canon digital camera mic...but what the hey...at least you'll hear "something" of the Skjold in action.

It was a fun show...and I agree with Tom - would love to see more action shots of these beauties.

It was my first show with the X2 digital wireless...worked great and sounded phenomenal all the way up and down the fretboard. I'm impressed with this foray into the wireless world.

It was also this band's first show in which we had to completely trust someone else's PA and sound-mixing abilities. I've played with backline many times before - especially for large churches - but this particular band plays for bars, clubs, and special events. We have a phenomenal PA of our own (which we've used to cover large outdoor venues as well), and we tend to (if we have a choice) opt to use our own system exclusively.

Verdict is still out - it definitely was nice for load in/load out; however, our sound was definitely not as refined (as in completely EQ'd for each instrument/voice). Also, the soundman had issues with wiring for his aux channels, so I could not use my in-ears and we only had 2 monitor mixes to share - oh well, the crowd loved us and the venue paid VERY well...I guess we've already been booked back there later in the summer. If nothing else, the venue's sound system has a TREMENDOUS amount of FOH headroom (like 4 huge, line-array mounted Cerwin Vega subs, for example)...always a good thing.

Anyway - lots of "firsts" that particular night.

I run a 'Berg PA', which you see off to the left in the picture. My bass rig consisted of a Berg HT210/HT115 stack, and I tried out three different heads that night (one per set) - Glockenklang Heart-Core, Markbass LMII, and Markbass SD800. Directly behind me are two H&K Combos. The 2x10 combo was for my 'keyboard' rig (MIDI pedals in to a Triton Rack) and the 1x12 combo was for my 'rhythm guitar' rig (octave up and distortion from my Uni-Bass).

I already posted this over on the Skjold Player's web site but I figured I drop it in here as well.

Here's a shot of the back of the new Skjold I have in the works.

Specs are going to be:

One piece ash body (after hearing Pete play Mr. Greer's when it was finished made this a no brainer)
HIGHLY figured flamed Redwood top (I know, I'm a sucker for it) with matching pick-ups, headstock and heel
Matching Redwood capped Ash knobs
Super clean Maple fretboard (again thanks Mr. Greer!)
Black hardware
Pete's new Audere pre-amp

I'm also going to step into the ERB world with this. It's going to be a 7 string. My two 5 strings will be my primary gigging basses, this one will be for me to musically explore a bit.
