You can't just switch the wires around.Single coils need to be reverse wound and reverse polarity to be hum cancelling when used in a pair.
MEC are well aware of this, and choose not to do it for these particular pups. I've asked them about it, and unfortunately I don't have the email from one of their techs anymore, but suffice is to say they've engineered the Dynamic Correction pups to sound a certain way, and their happy with it. I like the sound very much (albeit in quite a different bass I might add), and in a well shielded bass the noise shouldn't be significant. We'll see how they sound in the Afzelia Corvette Fretless with some nice Dr Sunbeams on board.
Certainly the noise level is not more than any single coil jazz bass with the pickups in any blend configuration other than exactly equal (both full on for example).
As for the price - I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The RRP for the Afzelia Corvette with Matching Headstock came to $2650 AUD. You can figure the fairly standard in-store discount from there
Should come down pretty close to 2 grand.A fair saving is the lack of Active Electronics. I prefer passive anyway, and it's cheaper. I win on both counts.
I seem to remember that each passive Dynamic Correction pup is a "specially designed stacked coil (but not humbucking)", and that that's what the "Dynamic Correction" term refers to.
I'd like to know more about the design principles behind this approach, but MEC don't offer much. Maybe someone else here knows?

I remember liking those pups quite alot on one of my old Rockbass Corvettes - and I'm interested in seeing what they sound like in a German Corvette. In my opinion they often get swapped out too quickly.

I just put money down on a LTD 2006 Thumb Dirty Blonde (number 67 of 250 made) that had the frets professionally removed by none other than renowned luthier Richard Beck. It has such a singing mwah to it and only cost me $1495! The birdseyes fall evenly at the top and bottom of the body and in the middle is a bookmatched grain that spreads out and upward in the shape of eagle wings - a nice compliment to the gull inlays in the fingerboard.
I'll pick the bass up the day after Christmas, but here is a picture of the actual bass taken by The Bass Place, where I bought it from:

trust me...the only thing worse than having had a streamer stage II 5 and letting it go is having two...and two thumb nt 6's...and two thumb bolt neck 5's...and a thumb nt 4...and a streamer lx4...gee whiz...i'm probably going to end up going full circle and getting another nt thumb 4 like i had just about 10 years ago...sweet axe

Woohoo! I got off work really early today, so I went ahead and picked up the Dirty Blonde today instead of waiting until after Christmas. I didn't want to have it in my truck while running my route all day, and I had the day after Christmas off, so I was going to wait until then, but when I finished my route early and found out I didn't have to help anyone else with their routes, I rushed right over to The Bass Place on my way back in.
I then rushed home and hooked this baby up to my SWR Mo' rig. Jingle Bells never sounded so good! :lol: No, it really does sound incredible. My goal for this particular bass in my arsenal is to get a funky "slap and slide" like Bathiki Kumalo gets with his fretless Paul Simon's Graceland album. Since the Dirty Blonde has the right combo of woods and is known to be a slap monster when it has frets, my technique, not the instrument, will be the biggest challenge to achieving my goal. But when I have it on the P pickup and "pop" on the D string, all the fat glorious sound of funk is right there! I do seem to get flatter muffled wooden tone when popping on the G string however. Perhaps just a simple setup adjustment perhaps?

'94 NT 5 string Thumb. Doesn't have the best grain i've seen on one (very straight, no contrast), but maaan does it sound good!

Is that mean to be instead of the SSII? In that case, yeah. The streamer $$ I played was nice, but not in the same league as the thumb IMO. Didn't get to play an actually SSII as they had sold theirs, and also sold the P-nuts, bugger! Ah well, if I play an SSII down the line and find it better suited, I can always trade/swap the thumb, or just add an SSII to the collection... REALLY digging the thumb more than I thought I ever would, you'd know my past opinions on em ey man! The older profile with wenge neck makes such a difference.
Oh yeah, and a major difference between the dirty blonde and streamer 5's compared to the older thumb.. The B string! The thumbs B is just sweet. Tight as and full of punch/growl.
Going to keep the Sterling, custom paint job, a sort of redy/orange to yellow fade. Probably put a nordy pup in their too.
