I hope that club membership is not bass-ed on skill!

No I'm pretty sure that gets you in

i would love to have a Warwick...body's are very cool...and the sound as well. But why can't warwick make a more comfortable neck, these things are unreasonably to large from front to back...i feel like i'm holding a baseball bat instead of a musical instrument. Is there a reason for this? If they would just shave some wood from the neck and contour it i would buy one in a second. Any other players agree with me?

Meh... I don't have a problem with my 5 string $$. Bigger than my Ibanez, yes, but really not a problem. The Thumb on the other hand...

Corvette $$ vs Streamer $$
(What's with the gold hardware and extra cost for the Streamer?)

Corvette $$ NT Bubinga vs Corvette FNA Jazzman
(Exactly same price based on the Price List on the Warwick site.)

Thoughts?

You keep asking about warwicks... You really ought to try them and see for yourself.

Streamer are always more expensive due to the contoured body. Harder to manufacture apparently (even though, with CNC...). Gold hardware is probably an esthetic decision. Not everyone's cup of tea (my corvette $$ came with gold).

The Streamer has a maple neck. Why? I don't know, maybe it fits better the streamers tone-wise.

As for the NTs, I doubt the bubinga and the ash will come out with the same price. Bubinga is always more costly. First instinct would be to go with bubinga. It looks great, and would probably have a tighter, less boomy sound. The Bubinga is suppose to be something like 1850 euros, which isn't bad at all.

That Corvette is unreal... Lucky you!

I would check the intonation, and lower the pickups a bit maybe. It seems to not be intonated. And the string will worn the pickups if they are high like that, unless you have a very light touch.

Thanks for the suggestion. Intonation??? Pickup adjustment??? :help: I bought a book/DVD on Bass basics, and I'm just learning how to tune it. I'll either have to learn on this bass the way it is, and learn to adjust it as my "skills" developing, or hook-up with an accomplished player who can give me some direction. Any of you players live near Maryland?

The saddles seem to be positioned in a straight line. Usually, you adjust the intonation by moving the saddles at the bridge up and down. It could be that it's just perfect :)

If the intonation is not correct, the note on the 12th fret will not be exactly the same as the note of the open string. It's often quite subtle, so don't worry too much about that.

For the pickups, it's easy, just turn 4 screws around each pickups clockwise a couple of turns to lower them. Then make sure the screws all have a small trension (there isn't one that feels loose). It will just prevent the strings form hitting the pickups, damaging the cover, and possibly making a 'pop' sound. No big deal again.

The Warwick site has a few tutorials and stuff for beginners. Scales, right hand techniques, left hand techniques. THere are a couple more around the web.

SurrenderMonkey: Thanks for the detailed explanation, and the helpful links. Approximately how much clearance should there be between the strings and the pickups? Will lowering the pickups have any effect on the sound?

I'll take a look this evening. Maybe, the photo makes the space seem smaller than it actually is. I'll take another photo showing the actual distance between the strings and the pickups.

Not much, maybe 1/2 cm max. The sound won't change. Basically, it's just so the strings dont hit the pickup covers. I have a 12 years old bass, and the covers have pretty deep grooves from the strings hitting them. It doesn't affect the sound or damage the pickups, just looks worn, which would be a shame on a nice bass like yours :)

Again depends on your playing style, and far they actually are. I tend to be pretty hard on my equipment.

That should really be in another thread BTW.

NO KIDDING?

Doubt the local distributor would have that option thou. :hmm:

Go to any Wick dealer, and tell them what you want. They contact the US Distributor (Dana B. Goods in LA). Now, the distributor will do things like changing hardware, but anything more extensive will get sent up to Warwick Germany. They build your bass (which could take months) send it to Dana B. Goods, who in turn drop ships it right to your door. Once you leave the dealer/retailer, they're job is done. If you're willing to wait, you can get just about anything you want from Warwick.:bassist:
