here's my new to me Thunderbass ET5 Maple and Bubinga (19 mm spacing)....... be forewarned, she is UGLY and I did not do the damage...... I just happen to be the sucker who wants to bring her back to life...... i don't know the history behind the damage either, although i suspect a pi$$ed off spouse or child... she is not stolen either, as my buddy i traded with for her contacted Pedulla about her.

my plans are gotoh GB7s, indi bass bridges, mighty mite active PUPs, dunlop straplocks, Artec 3 band EQ..... a Watco danish oil finish to top it off.

i know its probably sacrilege to not restore her to factory parts, but i'm a cheap ba$tard. kinda like putting a mower engine in a mustang. proly not worthy to show with all of the gorgeous ones in this thread.

but it will be fun. i've got to add glue to the lower rear body wing, but otherwise the original glue job is fine, aside from being dirty. neck feels great. being so used to my Ibby BTBs, her size surprised me. about the same size as my 32" scale Ibby Roadstar2.

so is she worthy of a number?

My guess is that it was in some kind of accident while in the case, else I would expect to see more dents as well. Knocking off a headstock isn't that difficult (I had an original BC Rich Mockingbird that was knocked over and suffered such a fate), but the body damage leads me to believe that this was a very hard impact to the bass while it was in it's case (car accident?).

I have a question for Pentabuzz owners. How many have the standard neck width and how many have the wide (19 mm) width? I ask because I have the wide but I do find that I am more likely to suffer hand fatigue when playing this bass. I used to have a Carvin with what I believe was 17, possibly 17.5 mm and I got rid of it to get the Pentabuzz. I did this in part because I was constantly switching from my 4 (MVP) to the five when playing out and I thought that having the same spacing on each bass made more sense. I did have problems adjusting between the 2 different spacings, but now I get hand fatigue when playing the pentabuzz.

that's a good point, i hadn't thought of an accident... the fingerboard is NOT damaged, only the neck itself.

I just picked up a Thunderbass, have had a MVP flss a long time.
So having not much time on the T and given the MVP is flss, I'd say it's a similar voice, very articulate and mid present. So far I think the MVP is a bit bigger on the low end but I haven't had much time w/T yet. The T is really nice and clear and almost has a compressed sound to it. I plan on using it for the busier/faster type gigs as it is very easy to play, and the voicing lets the busier stuff speak well.

OK...I'm officially in. It is technically my 3rd Pedulla. The first was an MVP back in the mid 90's when I first started playing. Technically, it was a long term loaner from a friend of mine. My bass was stolen so he let me use his old MVP for a year or so until I could get something else. Then, about 3 years ago I picked up a used Thunderbass from Guitar Center and really like it....Until having it a number of weeks and decided to adjust the truss rod. I pull off the cover and the nut is totally rounded. Obviously, somebody did not use the Pedulla truss rod wrench, at some point. So, after finding out that a new truss rod would be $800 or so from Pedulla..I promptly took the bass back. Fortunately, they took it back...interestingly enough, I saw it back on their wall a week later for more than I paid!

Anyway, enough of those stories...I just got this one here on TB and I am very pleased. 2005 Thunderbolt with cocobolo top and birds-eye board. I played it at church yesterday and I had tons of people come up to me and say the tone was great...including the sound guy. And these are coming from people who hear me play Smith, Sadowsky etc.

I checked them out at Winter NAMM, and I was honestly quite impressed. Mike really poured a lot of himself into this model. We have a Nuance 5-string on its way to our Technical Editor, Phil Maneri, in anticipation of an upcoming review. :ninja:

A friend on mine has a Nuance. It's nice-like all Pedulla's. The neck has a different profile cut to it compared to a T Bass or an MVP. Sounds good to me-a bit more forward sounding than other models but it doesn't sound spectacular enough for me to trade/sell my ET5 or MVP for one.
