The Pedulla Club!

That's a good thought, but at 11 years old, this neck is PERFECT! I wouldn't touch it with SW. They have made some pretty nice glue in the last ten years that will stick for a long time but as soon as you want to pull it off there is no residue or discoloration (other than typical light exposure) so I think that's the best route. It sure is a lot easier that practicing all the time ;)

Is that a sparkley purple? Either way I dig it with that pickgaurd. Every time I play it, I love my J2 Rapture a little bit more. The perfect modern jazz IMHO.

It is a solid "candy" purple. They are great aren't they. I have a Thunderbass as well but I think I like the Rapture a bit better.
What strings do you put on? I have Pedulla Nickels on and they sound quite good.

p.s. The purple knobs are not stock. I had 'em hanging around and think they work well.

Just got this bass today. I used to own a 4 string in this exact model. Now it's bringing back good memories! Wondering if I could get a number? Thanks guys

They have a tapered B. I have always liked the Pedulla strings, even before I had their basses.
I'm generally not crazy about taperwounds but Pedulla got 'em right.

Unlike most other basses I've owned my Pedullas sound great with any string I've put on 'em: TI Flats & Rounds, Pedulla/D'Addario/Dean Markley steel & nickel rounds, whatever. That said D'Addario XL nickels are my overall favorite.

You said it - Pedulla is a great bass. Very underrated or misunderstood or something. For me this is good, I picked up my Thunderbass for $750 used. Pristine condition. It sat in my local shop for nearly 4 years going from $1800 gradually down to $750 when I snatched it up. I guess Pedulla just doesn't have the name recognition.
My Rapture was just about the same price but from eBay.

Lucky us huh?

I definitely agree. Pedullas are some of the most underrated basses on the market. I have tried many times to figure out why. The only thing I can think of is the decision to push most of their distribution through GC. I think they did and still do tend to sit in GC stores for years before the prices are lowered to blow them out. So, then they end up with a lower value on the market based on how cheaply they were sold new. GC is not really known for boutique basses and even when you go into a GC and they have a Pedulla. It usually has dead strings on it and a horrible setup and scratches all over it from every 16 year old slapping on it.Thinking they are going to be the next Victor Wooten. On the contrary, if you go to a local boutique shop like the Atlanta Bass Gallery or others. They will have Pedullas but they generally do not have them for long because they are focused on the market. Plus, they will make sure the bass is well taken care of during the time they have it in the store. Just my 2 cents.

In the end, it is a shame that such nice basses don't get the fair shake they deserve.

I dare say the looks of them are also a factor. While I love the way pedullas look, i think most people would rather go with the classic looks of other makers.
Also, there's no high-profile pedulla endorser, other than mark egan, whom while a most respected player, i don't think is as well known as other players...

Can I join? :D

I recently received this Nuance 4-string, and I think I am in love!

The overall look is just amazing!

It's hard to capture just how deep that quilt is, and there is a lot of movement as you shift angles:

The figuring in the ebony board really gels with the red heart quilt maple top:

The maple body has some killer flaming and marking going on. Those black lines are part of the natural marking of the wood:

This picture didn't turn out as well as I'd like, but you can see some of the flaming in the body (and neck!), as well as some of the red and black markings in the maple. Check out the ebony control cavity cover!
IMG_8496.jpg

Again, the flaming didn't really photograph well, but I didn't expect the back to put on nearly as much of a show as the front of this bass!

This bass feels incredibly comfy. The finish on the neck is just so inviting! I've played a number of Pedulla's, and this is definitely the nicest feeling/playing/sounding of Mike's basses that I have had the opportunity to try. The tone is just phenomenal, too! It has that MTD-like clarity, but with more beef and punch, and a bit more roundness. I know that I'm still on the honeymoon, but I keep pinching myself to make sure this is real.

If I sound overly excited by this bass, it's because I am! :D :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:
