I'm not really sure on what it boosts/cuts specifically, but i think if you turn the tone knob up all the way it boosts treble and as you roll off it cuts it some (like a normal tone knob). I also thought I heard someone say that as you turn the master volume up it boosts the bass a bit...I could be wrong on that one though.

Pedullas are the bass that fit me the best (of all that I've tried so far). They just feel right in my hands. The best neck ever. I'm dieing to try a Nuance. I've checked all of the retailers and not seen one in stock yet.

I know I sound like a broken record, but I am just so excited by the Nuance line, I'm really hoping that more folks get a chance to play them! :cool:

Hey guys!
I picked up a mid 90's Rapture late in 09 and after some effort to get it to a playable condition (shim the neck etc) I am finding the tone of the bass to be too "agressive".
I would prefer less "wool" in the tone and have tried a few things to achieve this, including,
-lowering the single soap bar pickup, to well below the recommended height on the Pedulla site.
-changed the strings from SS to nickel
-lower the input level on my RH450 and removed all of the tube tone
-changed the battery to a top quality Duracell
-took a look at the pre-amp and unless I missed it, there is no way to lower the output of the pre.

I'm hoping for some suggestions from you experienced Pedulla folks. Any and all are appreciated!

Has anyone tried changing the value of the tone pots? It seems that the bass control starts adding a lot of muddy midrange when I turn it up a lot. Not sure how you set the "slope" or decay from the frequency that is being boosted by the control.

I have a single-HB Rapture 4 and a 5 string J-2000-5. The single-HB is naturally more aggressive. I find TI Flats mellow it out a bit. Also I believe the PU is wired in series, which gives it a loud, hot P-Bass kind of midrange. Wiring in parallel would tame that a bit, but you already kind of get that effect with the mid switch off.

It is a high-output bass-rolling down the volume by about a third reduces biting upper mids. I'm tempted to get a passive tone control/preamp bypass installed on mine but I haven't gotten around to it.

OK Tom..I'm gonna blame it on you..After a long discussion with Michael Pedulla on the phone today..I ordered a Nuance through the Atlanta Bass Gallery :hyper:

Your name even came up in the conversation...I won't say what was said. :ninja:

In 4 to 6 weeks I will have a Nuance 5 with Red Heart Quilted Maple top and black hardware. :bassist:

Could any of you, who purchased their Thunderbolts brand new, give me an idea of what a good price would be to buy a brand new T-bolt 5-string (AA flame w/BEM FB)? All of my Pedulla's have been purchased used and I'm gassing for a t-bolt with a flame-top and BEM fingerboard - and I have seen one in a local music store where they were asking approx 3K (which seems way too high - but maybe that's just me).

I bought mine (TB4 AA Flame w/BEM fb) back in 2002. IIRC, I think I paid something in the vicinity of $2200. Of course, that was eight years ago and it's a four-string. Pedulla has "list" prices on his web site. Take the usual 25% off the list price of the bass you are looking at, and it's just under $3K (not including the case).

Well, just to give everyone who wants to a chance to say "no pics, no bass" I just received a fretless MVP-5.

It was converted from fretted and sounds great acoustically - I'm at work and can't run it through an amp until this evening.

Well, I guess my three other fretless basses ( or is that fretli?) have to go!
