The Pedulla Club!

Strange that one looks like a neck-through. Is that an option for the Bolt, a neck-through look?

Regards,
Wayne A. Pflughaupt

Pedulla Club #45

As states above, it is the Thunderbolt ET. It looks like a neck through but is actually a bolt on. There are a few builders that do it. Ken Smith has for many years. Warrior also did it on some of their earlier basses but no longer do it this way on their bolt-ons. The Thunderbass I had was very similar in tone to the Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt probably has a little quicker attack to my ears. Tonally, they are pretty similar. The rest is mostly aesthetics. The Thunderbass has the carved wood cavity cover like the MVP/Buzz basses and the Thunderbass has a higher mass bridge.

My T-Bolt is also an ET5-Cocobola, the top is not so pretty as yours - which is why yours was on pedulla.com - but I like my 'board better. ;) I find the neck profile on my T-Bass6 more similar to my MVP & Buzz basses than the T-Bolt's. The 'Bolt neck is rounder. I don't think any of my basses has the same preamp as another (well, the P-Buzz & the T-Bolt may have the same pre, but the P-Buzz is P/J & the T-Bolt has 'bars), but the 'Bolt sounds darker to me. I use it for blues or slap

I'm new here, have owned a Pedulla Buzz 4 S/N 3250 since the early 90's. I'd like to be part of the club.

I currently have my eye on either a 4 or 5 string Thunderbass. I found a new 5 string with the older electronics (has been hanging in the store for many years) and would appreciate any words of wisdom on the old vs. new thunderbasses.

Thanks.

I had a '94 T-Bolt 6 with the older electronics (vol-blend-passive tone-ThunderGuts) and have played a fair# of later T-Bolt/T-Basses w/the 2 band Bart setup. I really liked the passive tone for mellowing the tone of the soapbars (they are internally active Barts, a la EMG) BUT I always wished it had an active bass control to fatten up the bridge pickup a bit. The T-Bolts have a big, wide, almost P-Bass attack while the T-Bass strikes me as a little more refined/hifi.

I probably would have added a Bart pre if I had kept the bass. I love the tone of my 2 Raptures but I'm toying with the idea of adding a passive tone + preamp bypass someday just for kicks. I really wish Mike would offer options like this, but hey, his basses sound great as they are.

Just a quick question for you all Pedulla-ites. I've been thinking about buying a Pentabuzz with the 19mm spacing. I've seen a couple for sale in the last couple of years on TB and I really like that string spacing on my other basses.

Am I dreaming to think I'd be able to find one used?

Dan K.

They are around...check BassGear.com too...maybe place a want ad?

Also most CA Guitar Centers I've been in have had a 5 string Rapture and PentaBuzz. They sit high up on the wall for years until they get blown out. My local one sold their PentaBuzz for maybe $1800. I'm kinda kicking myself for not buying the Rapture on clearance for $1100, but I already have 2 so I couldn't justify it.

The Guitar Center in Duluth, GA outside of Atlanta has a used Rapture for $999. It is in pretty good shape. I am sure you could get them down to $800ish. Like any bass in GC, it desperately needed a setup but seemed to be OK otherwise.

I finally found a problem with my sweet Rapture.... the abolone (I believe) side dots on the fret board. It was one of those nights that the light guy was being all cute or whatever and I could see _____! It became quite tiring quickly. I may have to just put some larger solid black dots on there, but that sux! I don't have a pic of the side, but you can get the idea from the front of the board. Those are BIG unlike the side dots!

I had a rapture with a maple board and abolone dots and i had some difficulty seeing them on stage at times as well. The other rapture I had had black dots on the sides of the board...so maybe they changed that at some point, or it was just an option.

I blame it on the beer

I do like the way it looks, but I think some small black stickers will be in order next time we play there.

Something that actually works and is not "too" permanent is a paint pen. I've used it before on an unlined fretless that did not have side dots either. If you use one to put dots on top of the abalone dots that are there. They will wear off as you use it. So that may be good or bad depending on how you look at it. If you want to take them off completely some 0000 steel wool takes them right off but actually leaves the neck better than it was before. The 0000 steel wool is super fine and it really just ends up getting the "gunk" off the neck. Just be careful not to let the "dust" get in the pickups.
