The Pedulla Club!

Hey folks,
I am considering gutting my single soap bar Rapture of it's p/u and pre-amp. I am looking for suggestions as to what to replace them with... I would ideally like more mid controls than the two band cut/boost currently in it.
I'd really appreciate p/u recommendations as well as pre-amp suggestions.
Thanks very much!

Not a Pedulla owner (though hopefully someday), but do you know if the soapbar is a dual-coil, and if so how is it wired? If it's a DC wired in parallel, a very easy thing you can do is switch it to series, which would give you a lot more mids coming from the pickup.

Then, if you like that sound, but still want a mid control, my next step (if it were me) would be to throw in an Aguilar OBP3, which would give you cut/boost and freq selection of mids, and would probably add some bite as well.

Good luck!

Hey guys, first time posting in the Pedulla club.
Nice to see you, Lucky! Hopefully you’ll be able to join soon!

And so here is my newbie question: I'm seeing new Pedullas on Bass Central with price tags of $4295.00 pretty consistently, yet I've done a search and I'm seeing that almost every Pedulla (thunderbass) sells for $2,000 or under, even if it's in great shape. Many in the $1800 range. Can anyone tell me why that is?

I know that resale for boutique basses can be pretty drastic, but this seems more than usual to me.
You’re right; I’ve been following Pedullas on ebay the past few years, and they seem to top out in the $2300-2500 range. That’s for the “top of the line” models, and often (if not typically) they don’t even get that much.

Not sure there’s any easy explanation for the big discrepancy between e-bay and used ones from vendors; perhaps the latter could tell you if you contact them. Perhaps you’re paying extra for an instrument that’s been professionally set up, or perhaps the option of a no-hassle return if you don’t like it for some reason. That might well be worth something, since it’s often difficult to get your hands on a Pedulla for a “test drive.” I mean, the only reason I have mine today is because I found one in a local Guitar Center and got a chance to try it out. It was the best five-string neck I’d ever played on, so I was sold. If I had only heard about the great neck, I would have really been hesitant to drop a couple g’s having never laid a hand on it. So, perhaps paying extra to get an easy return policy might make the higher “price of admission” go down better for someone buying “cold turkey.”

But then again, you could easily just flip it on ebay if you didn’t like it and not lose any money, so I don’t know...

Anyway, that’s the best I can come up with – like I said, I’ll bet one of those vendors could give you a better answer if you contact them.

Wayne A. Pflughaupt

If you look at age also, most of those $1800 to $2800 basses are also pre 2000 year models and have been either well played or kept by the original owners as mint. You rarely see anything really new going used (except recently) and they go for the regular market value of the typical 15+ year old bass. Most new basses a kept for a long time and almost always sold with regret. I regularly watch this as well and there are bargains out there because the market for them is not of great demand sometimes, but it surely is not because of quality, that's for sure. I had a local shop owner court me with a PentaBuzz that he would not leave out on his shop (he didn't want it trashed) for over 6 months until he gave it to me for $1300. It was my gift from God. I thought it was brand new and was shocked it was a 1999 model in absolute perfect condition that included a matching red and black Levy's leather strap. I was at the time paying almost 50% of my pay in child support and was struggling to find a replacement neck for my MIJ fretless Jazz. I made payments and it is now my main axe. It is my sound. Michael does some of the best repair and service work on his stuff at a reasonable rate. He will soon redo my fingerboard finish and might also do a change of color from red sunburst to midnight arctic because I need a new strap!
Enjoy the quality!!! It is a blessing.

Owning Hexabuzz I check the market for the 6-string fretless Ken Smith and F-Bass often. It is the same case with them as with Pedulla. The basses of 4-6K USD list price range very often offered used at 2-3K USD. The use period is within 10 years again mint or near condition. I wonder why as well.

However you can still see used mint Hexa- or Pentabuzz offered at price quite close to retail.

New to the forum. I have had 5 Pedullas. I will share some photos. I am also about to sell my 5 string pentabuzz if anyone is interested.

Here are photos of the Pentabuzz that I will be selling. I will post the other Pedullas ASAP.
