I think I've made my decision, FWIW.

I can't bear to part with my 5L right now, despite the amazing trade deal I was offered. It just sounds and plays too good to let go. I'd be kicking myself afterwards, for sure. Big thanks to Chef for offering some sage advice on this subject.

Sorry to get some people's hopes up. I spent a lot of time this week playing it, and it just kills. It's just such a great bass. Even if I could get another 5L down the road, I couldn't be sure that it would be quite as sweet as this one in particular.

It remains my "magic pixie dust bass."

you would be seriously nutz to sell that bass of - especially when I'm feeling low in the toy budget department! Between that one and Eric's Drozd ... the two best 5's I've held. A Drozd ?! not bad company to keep for a hunk a plactic & formica

Bart - I had TI Super Alloy's on your 4 banger 'fish when it was here - and they were killer. That bass had a nice twang but retained some body with them. It was setup JJ then , of course. The Orange PJ has TIJF's and well the slinky feel is addictive but if you've got that tonality covered by the 5L - I'd vote for Super Alloy's ...

Does anyone here know how to fix a small crack on the backside of a Rumblefish? I contacted Joe at Reverend and he says to use superglue, but he didn't elaborate on how to do it. He said I should take it to a pro repair guy, but no one around here knows what to do with it.

Any suggestions?

GAS is bad! Why does it hurt so much? I've been looking at Sadowsky, Nordstrand and Lull recently and I've been talking with guys that own them on the board. I saw someone play a Sadowsky live the other night and it cut through like nobody's business. I told myself if a Sad, Nordy or Lull came along around $1500 with VTC, I'd snatch it up. Of course, Ryan L. listed his Lull M4 with a quilted maple top, birdseye board and VTC today right at $1500 and I had to pounce.

I can't afford to keep both the Reverend and the Lull and I made a promise to myself and my girlfriend to only have one bass. So before I list my Reverend JJ XL that I just got from Folmeister on the Classifieds, if anyone in the club wants it, hit me up with a PM and I'll offer the same deal he gave me with a set of Reverend P pickups that I just picked up thrown in for free in case you want to convert it to a PJ XL. I'll miss it, but I'll get one back after I'm married...maybe...if she lets me...maybe I'll get it before we're married.

Uncontrollable buildup of pressure.
It has to be released to ease the pain.
You have two choices.
1) Sharpen a #2 knitting needle on a bench grinder, and hammer it into your gut with a 4lb sledge til you pierce the GAS pocket.
2) Get a credit card (or a second job...blech!).

man, I thought you were crazy to part with the dpleII--but I'm glad you did! I think I like it more than my 'fish add a new MIJ precision thinline / tele and the 'fish aren't getting much luvin' right now--but I know that won't last forever--I just need to set up a rotation like they do with pitchers in baseball

This is a crack in the plastic side as opposed to the top or bottom, hai?

If you can open it up a but without causing further damage then wick in some super glue and clamp it closed - I use soft wood, like pine, with the edges rounded - wrapped in terry cloth to sandwich and then clamp on those.

Given the construction and the relative lack of experience working woth these basses - I would go very slowly... If you can't open the crack without causing further damage you'll have to figure out how to get the glue in. Syringe maybe ?

now - hoow did this get cracked ? Can you post a pic of the crack itself ? I think maybe knifemaker is the only guy around to have done any significant repair on a Rev.

I actually might end up having 2 jobs. I should know by the end of next week. I have pretty much stopped using credit cards. That has gotten me in trouble before. I'll keep an eye open for 10k pups. Did you grab the set that just sold in the Classifieds? If I have to, I might just sell my Peterson Strobostomp, my 70's Strat Partscaster, and my Sennheiser wireless unit.

Sorry, man. I just went through that 2 months ago when I lost my job, which led to the sale of most of my gear collection and a change in outlook.

The DPLEII is an amazing instrument. I do miss it. I remember playing that side by side with a Stingray and just blowing it out of the water. It cuts through with ease and it's as loud as a choir of angels.

I hear you, man. I'm happy with my school of 'Fish and my Fender, but I still have really bad G.A.S. for a Sadowsky or a Dingwall Super PJ. I would have to sell all my basses to get either one, though. After all these years, I've learned many times over that there are tons of amazing basses out there and as soon as I find "the one", there'll be something else. At this point, unless I win the lottery or get promoted to Benevolent Dictator, I've got to leave well enough alone and stop going to the Atlanta Bass Gallery!

so i bought a set of Chromes to try out on my 5L, but i wasn't sure if i needed an extra long scale or not. i bought the "ECB81-5."

will those fit on my 5L?

I believe you need the SL to accomodate the 35" scale, I think.

ok, so since my chromes don't fit i might as well take this opportunity to see what you all suggest for strings on my 5L...i was thinking flats, but i'll take any suggestions.
