+1... when I've played and heard Matt's I really dug it. The output of those basses is so high that they are the perfect thing for really driving a tube pre into warm overdrive... and as you state above, they have that 'growl and grit' build in but they never get woolly or muddy. Not my personal tone preference, but I sure do dig it for what it is... kind the the 'rock' equivalent of a 'J on Steroids' or 'P on Steroids' type thing. I'm looking forward to hearing Matt's through the Mesa 600. That should kill!

I still can't figure out how they get that huge output out of a passive circuit. These are the only basses that I've had to use the padded or 'active' input on an amp!

Strangely enough....A few gigs ago, I decided to try my 5L without the pad and just turned my gain way down. It sounded amazing! Even my guitar player noticed it.

I love the sound of flats, except when I'm playing them.... I tried a set on my Rick and my G & L Fretless, it just didn't do anything for me. They were Fender flats..maybe I might give TI a try sometime..

I either play my basses up high (5 & 6'ers) or at my gut...
Slinging it low just isn't for me.

Well, you must approach the bass as if it were your Dance Partner. This is your space, this is mine, A La Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing. Proper posture, Arms perpendicular to the neck & strings. Nothing should be touch the front of the bass except your thumb, on the pickup & fingers on the strings...OhMyGAWD! I sound like my 1st Bass Teacher!:crying:

I sling it pretty low, personally...And I still play as described above. Glad you're Loving The Fish. You joining The Reverend Club?

As some of you know... just got a Black Fish... :hyper:

Seems like some of you cats prefer the XL's .... even MaddAnthony was telling me how he prefers them.

Besides the toggle switch and the blend pot... is there any other difference between the XL's and regular Rumblefish???
... also can I purchase the parts from Reverend?...

I was also looking to switch the roundwounds over to flats or chromes... seems as though TI's are preferred.... anybody use any other brands of flats?

Well... without having The Time of My Life... :D
I like to use the bass body as an armrest.... add a cup holder and a spot for the remote and I'll be set...;)

After 15yrs of playing... it just works for me.
Actually, my forearm is getting used to the pain... hehe. I guess it just takes some getting used to.

As far as the club.... I flounder (pun intended) on basses so much... not ready to stake a claim to a number yet. :p

I was Slappin' The XL last night. I see what you mean about resting your arm "There"...It's Pretty Comfy!:cool:

That's why Bart has my old JJ 4. I couldn't bring myself to cutting the formica for the battery box ...

You know - we could hear one done that way though... I have 3z being worked over by Dave. We could box it, unsolder some pickups, extend the leads and bring 'em out through the jack hole ... and get a sense of what an Audere'd Rev would be like.

I had thought about cutting a new gaurd. Spacing the holes in J plate style and then mounting a J plate style Audere. There would be a slice across the guard so the 'plate' could come off for battery change ... as it would be a new plate everything else would remain stock...

Jamming on the XL at practice last night, I was impressed by the full, rich low end support, but the highs were getting a little bit lost in the mix. So, I grabbed a screwdriver, and raised the pickups a little bit on the treble side. This was just the ticket, and it highlighted the fact that these high output pickups seem to be even more sensitive to pickup height adjustments. After this little tweak, the D and G string were more balanced, relative to the E and A, and I was very happy with the results. :cool:
