Thanks for the link to the site. Looks like they also have a clear one for $41. ;) However AFAIK, except for that one clear one, all Reverend PGs had metal foil shielding on the back.

Now that I've been thinking about that PG, I've been thinking again about building a wiring harness for it so that I can easily switch between PJ and JJ just by unscrewing the pickups and pickguards and dropping the other one in. :D Just gotta put in some quick connects on the way to the output jack.

Question for my fellow 'fishermen:

If I make a new wiring harness for the black JJ pickguard, should I wire it as a JJ (vol/vol/tone) or XL (vol/tone/3-way switch for series/single coil/parallel)? I might add that I have the same basic XL-style configuration on my 5L, and like it.

Looks like from the Reverend website that they sell the pots -- A250K for the JJ, XL, and 5L basses, and A500K for the BH5. I think I'll get together an order here.

XL wiring...on a PJ?

I wouldn't.

Not without changing wiring to something more like a G&L L1000 where you can roll bass off.
I love the L1000 OMG single coil+bass booost-which is sonically equivilant, but probably pretty different electronically-but without bass rolloff it can be too much.

Correct, but he's talking about quick connects...which I presume means leaving the pots, output jack, and basic wiring with the body...Just swapping the neck pup and p/g.

Now, if you swapped everything, and left only the J pup in place, and took all the guts out while still attached to the p/g...I'd agree that I prefer an XL JJ.


Having said that, I won't be converting my Bugeye JJ to XL; I have to XL 5L's, and the v/v/t is different, and nice on it's own merits. The high end is a little shinier.

Is it possible to have the XL series switch, but wire it Vol/Vol, instead of Vol/Tone? If so, I may try to go Vol/Vol on my XL. I see no need to roll highs out of this bass, and I really do love the ability to dial in the mids with a Vol/Vol setup.

Didn't feel like rifling through the the whole thead.
I've been intrigued by RRfish since they came out.

I like the idea they are a great fingerstyle bass.

My question: Are they jazz style necks? P-style is a bit to big for my smaller hands and comfort.

Round-over vs bevel refers to the profile of the edge of the pickguard

The 4 string neck, at least the maple ones play very much like a fat J neck. Insanely comfortable necks... I haven't measured but I would guess mine is 1.6 at the nut and is a fulll'ish 'C' shape.

It's no P neck, that's for certain.

you really want a maple neck ... trust me on that... you don't want to get too picky on body color either. Once you get one in your hands you won't care if it's black, white or bugeye - although bugeye is very cool! It is generally 'un-obtanium'.

I agree very comfortable, I doubt they're wider than 1.5 though and I would describe the neck as very flat, rather than full.

tomatoe, tomahto, ..., again, it's all good!--damn good!:D

So what does the maple neck translate over the rosewood?
I understand that it may be more bright or clear as a result.
I found that I preferred maple board with Laklands at least the 4-94 and 55-94 models.

I like the way Maple looks over Rosewood, but I prefer the Rosewood sound over maple, or even Ebony for that matter! I like a Warmer sounds though...
