Yo, thanks man. I bought the one right above. It had exactly what I wanted and had been looking for, for the better part of 3 years so I jumped on it. I originally wanted a 4 but I'm playing a lot of reggae these days and could really use the lower notes and better positioning. The blocks, binding, black PG and black headstock really set the bass off compared to the newer ones that don't offer those options. I spent the first night really marveling at what a beautiful instrument it is and how nice the neck feels. And the sound...man. Incredibly smooth. Who want to give me a number?
So happy to have this special bass in the hands of someone who appreciates all the things I love about it.
Personally, I think thats the best color scheme of all the mercallis. Classy.
Well, it looks like I no longer qualify for the club. But if y'all don't mind, I'll hang around a bit.
Couldn't wait for my Mercalli 5 FM to arrive (should get in October...Sigh), so I took the opportunity to be in London to get myself this beauty.

I've tried it few months ago and end up getting the Turquoise Mercalli 5 FM, it was epic and choice was difficult as I love short scale basses. Funny thing it that I'll end up getting both of the basses in the video below.
Anyway what sold me on it was this demo.

My new-to-me Reverend R5L (#4519). Up until last weekend, I could never get comfortable with a 5-string bass. Tried many times over the years with Fender, Music Man, Warwick. The R5L is just so comfortable to play. Love the neck, the looks, the tone, and I'm already dreaming about my next Reverend purchase (anything I've owned that was made from South Korea has been flawless and from what I'm reading, the modern Reverends are outstanding) ...
Very nice! And pretty rare. IIRC they only made 4 of the Bluewood finished R5L basses. I have one in Blackwood, which also was a total run of 4 units.
Yes, and the previous owner of this one had heard somewhere that two R5L "bluewoods" were parted out so that maybe only two still existed. However, on another TB thread I posted in, someone in Michigan has one with a serial number just one number before mine, and on Facebook I found a third bluewood R5L owner in N.Y. state. Reverend owners ... tight-knit community!
Edit: In thinking more about the "parting out" story, the parts in this case are so unique, I can't see how it would even make sense.

Well ... today marks exactly two weeks since I got my first Reverend - a Reverend R5L "bluewood" (as previously posted above. I never enjoyed a bass so much right from the first time I played it. Its been played constantly since then. It was my only 5-string (I have many Fender P 4-strings), but I took to it right away.
Well, the collector I bought it from had another one and I let him know if he ever thought of parting with that one, to get in touch with me right away. I thought maybe in a year or two, he might consider it. He contacted me last night
This one plays as beautifully as the first. He's a collector only and doesn't play much so I'm grateful that he sold it to me - mainly because he knew how much I would enjoy it and actually use it. I got both for trades actually so feeling very fortunate.
Not sure of this is the "flame maple" or "quilted mahogany" finish. Anyone know? For some strange reason, the serial number was removed. I'm not concerned as the neck is unmistakenly original and purchased used through by the seller from a reputable dealer. The seller will forward the number to me once he locates the bill of sale. In the meantime, I'll do some sleuthing on the Reverend archive datbase.
These R5Ls definitely have the most clarity of any basses I've ever owned. "Deep piano tone" nails it. Both are very consistent in how they sound.
Only slight difference is the neck finish. The brownish gold one has a darker tint, presumably to match the body, but it's also a thicker coat. My bluewood has a more natural wood feel to it. Still an amazing neck regardless, with super low action, no buzz, no dead spots.
Edit: love the Reverend database. Figured it out ... Quilted Faux Mahogany #01679. There was just enough residue from the marker left to match up with the details in the database.
