Trevis, I've owned at least a dozen basses . . . the Reverend is the first bass that's made me go out and buy another one of the same brand. That's gotta say something. Even now as prices start to rise, they are still a stupid good deal.

Sounds like me. I sold my old Rumblefish 4-string (in Turquoise) because I needed the money and thought I could buy another one in the future. A couple weeks later they announced they were discontinuing basses. I was fortunate enough to pick up my 5L in very good condition a few months ago.

I don't even play 5-strings, but you guys are givin' me G.A.S. with all your recent acquisitions. And, there's that black one with the maple board down in the classifieds.

Dave; You need a 5 string!
I very seldom use the "pedal tones," but you'll find that you can make a lot of difficult passages easier by plaing them in closed positions now. Also, you can move everything to different places on the fingerboard: less shifting.
Lastly, you can shift everything down one string, and up a 5th, and voila, same notes on a bigger string: fatter more solid tone!
For those of you who "just can't get used to a 5 string," try taking *only* a 5 string to work sometime (options make it too easy to bail), and use the B string as tho it were your Fender Precision thumbrest. I think you'll find it disappears this way; til you want to mess with it.

This is exactly the same in appearance as my 4-string Reverend. Joe said the top was "blackwood" and he thinks less than a handful of basses were built with it. Mine came with white pickup covers but I changed them to black so its identical to yours, minus one string.

I'm new to talkbass and playing bass as well. I'm totaly in AWE over this brand. Why did they stop making it and is there anything close to that style of bass. Very retro styling and looks fun as H#$% too!

I've tried it.. just couldn't get used to the B string. Among several 5- and 6-strings I've owned was Reverend 5L #19, green with a gold pickguard. It was a beauty, and I did record with it, so I've got a permanent reminder of how great it sounded!
4-string tuned DGCF cuts the mustard for me..
Keep checking Talk Bass classifieds, eBay, etc. I found mine on eBay a few months ago. It's in excellent condition, and it also came with the cool retro hard case.
I just put new strings on my fish...Ken Smith Burners (nickel rounds) 45-65-80-100. Just for the fun of it. I usually use DR Sunbeams in the same gauge. Tension seems a bit higher on the Smiths, athough I only played for a few minutes. Tonight I'll get a better idea. RacingBeat, congrats and please post a pic for us fishermen ASAP!
