Matrok - are those Dark Star's to scale ? Proportion wise they seem a little strange. More like a soap bar.

Interesting . . . I had the opposite experience. I was going to convert a JJ Fish to a PJ (still have the P pickup and pickguard) and found on the JJ I had the neck cavity was too narrow for the PJ.

I'm not sure which one I looked at but the last 2 JJs I had were both skunk stripe necks. So maybe when the PJ model went into production the routes/cavities were the same? (just guessing here)

a p/j would be the only mod i'd consider--i have some rev p's I bought when they were shutting down. I originally thought 4mal was off his rocker, but he explained himself well as to why he preferred different p/u's--sacrilege all the same, but he did explain himself!

No they are not, couldn't find an exact match, so I just sized it until I got the strings close to lining up.

I can picture that exercise being difficult at best. Maybe I can shoot my Dar Star P and a Reverend from the same distance. Then crop out the pickup ... that might work.

I can say from personal experience that 4mal's Reverend sounds absolutely amazing. How good? Got me thinking about swapping out the pickups in my 5L, which is what I call one of those "magic pixie dust" basses.

Still, I couldn't rout/cut it up and put Dark Stars in it -- whatever swap I did would have to be reversible, or it wouldn't happen.

ooo. nice job on the Green & Black Trevorus. Kinda understated for my taste. I could dig a pastel. Surf Green, Shell Pink, Coral, the (whattheheckdidtheycallit) red that looks like Orange - that one is killer in an original faded Fender! I saw a 60's J that had that finish a while back and it if weren't for the ski jump neck and the $7500 price tag ... the color still haunts me though ...

Do you mean that Fiesta Red? If it's the one I'm thinking of, it haunts me as well.

I have a maple necked premium mahogany topped 4 along w/ the white/gold 4 w/ rosewood and to tell the truth, I like the rosewwod better personally for tone and feel. the maple does look nice though!

Actually, the question is better phrased thusly:

Is the maple board a good enough reason to let me get yet another bass past my wife?

Considering I'm at six basses, with an SR5HH on the way, probably not.
