Still waitin' on the pics, but long story short, I had all the wiring replaced with super high quality wire, and the tech replaced the pots and caps, too. Basically, he dropped the resistance about as low as it can go, and when everything's dimed, it has a more aggressive bite and more treble response.
The tech is a real pro. You know you're in the right place when he starts describing electrical components as "sexy," and acts like an eight-year-old talking about his model airplane.
He gave me a complete rundown of what he did, which I'll post with the pics when I get them.
You got a nice looking one, Matt. It will be a huge change from your Benavente, mostly because of the old-school mojo the Reverends have.

That's freakin' SCHWEEET!I can't remember what I heard one time about the difference in pickups. It was mainly about early vs. later models, though.
The pickup spacing changed at one time, too. Some BH5s are 1.5" between pickups, and others are 2" between them. Sorry I can't help out with some useful info. Maybe Matrok or Chef knows something.
I was actually looking for a nice passive 5 string. I like the pickup placement on it too. I was trying to avoid something with that "bridge pickup growl" and get something more on the lines of a "P bass" old school sound. I'm really excited to try it out tomorrow!!!

In that case, it should be pretty much exactly what you're looking for. I always think of my 5L as being most like a 5-string P, especially since it's strung with TI flats. Classic old-school thumpy goodness.

one day I will own one of these in lake superior blue, I just want one because they were made in the city my dad was born in(east point, used to be called east detroit) and a few miles from where i was born.(mt. clemens) some amazing basses in this thread
