The Rickenbacker Club! (part 2)

Hello there!

I'm new around here, but just thought I'd post a picture of me with my mid-80's 4003 complete with strange multi-coloured neck pickup...

Is that a reflection or is the pickup painted? Looks great. Get the letters and numbers off the jackplate and using no spaces, put them in here and you can find out what month/year it was made.

I just bought this. Its a Giannini, made in brazil copy, from 1978. The first owner changed the Giannini plate to a Rickenbacker. It seems to be very true to the original. Same circuit, similar pick-ups, neck tru body. People say it even has a hotter signal than Rics. Im mad about a Ric, but they cost around 4000 dollars here....! I have already 10 basses and a family, so i just can not buy one. This one cost 1000 dollars. Im really diging this bass, his sound is awesome, totally different from my fenders, musicmans, yamaha, warwick, etc.

Thanks for the link, I now know my bass was manufactured in December 1986!

When I originally bought it about 5 years ago, the neck pickup was black. Over time I started to notice that bits of the paint had come off and there was something underneath, so I scratched the rest of the paint off and discovered that there was a strange paint-splatter type pattern on the pickup. I'm assuming that it's a replacement of some kind and it's supposed to look like that, but I've got no idea what it is. Someone else must have painted it black at some point. If anyone else has any ideas or info about this, please let me know!

Has to be someone's customizing. RIC has always had chrome or the black powder coating.

Thanks Elys. I miss your post's over at the RRF. My handle over there is "Cheyenne".

I could have picked up the whole DCM "suite" as well. In hindsight, I sure wish I would have.

Good to here from you.

Happy Birthday Scott!!! :hyper:

For those of you who don't know, Lowendblues (Cheyenne on the RRF) is having a birthday today. :D

Best wishes Scott, and I hope you have at least one really big birthday present with at least four strings and a minty finish to unwrap today....

So this is where the exiles hang out? Neat. I sure hope they're sending humanitarian aid from time to time. How you been Randall? You never returned any of my emails????? Must be busy with those 519 Ricks, huh? I sure wish I had more money than sense. No, wait, no I don't. Cheers, The One and Only J Dog. WORD!

Hiya Jason! How's counting beans for Outback going way down in Tampa? I hope you are doing well, truly. Been awhile since we had dinner together and talked jazz all night....

BTW, that's not funny, my brother-in-law died and left my sister in pretty bad shape in February. I'm Elys!

I choose not to post on RRF anymore for a very good reason, detailed in another thread on TB. Just remember, when Peter the Great Totalitarian God tells you all to sit down in the jungle hut and drink that koolaid, and if you all unquestioningly obey, I told ya so. It is just plain wrong what he did to Dale and so many others who would not kiss his a%$....

Like I said, most everyone I ever met there are great folks, all you guys on this thread included, but there are a few exceptions that are still there, and they know who they are.

As for me, been living in Europe between early December 2007 and late July 2008, so I did not receive any email from you :( Just send it again! Been taking care of my 82 year old Dad, he's getting better.

I think having both really good sense and a bit of money put aside as well is the best balance, particularly for these economic times, don't you? :D I've too many kids to feed to do otherwise...

C YA! :bassist:

Well smack my arse and call me Judy!

Sorry if I offended you, of course I had no knowledge of any serious events in your family. Anyone who knows me knows I would never make light of that.

I'm very glad you were able to keep finding all those Ricks while you were in Europe, though. It's a shame they don't have email over there  but maybe one day!!!

Congratulations on the three Rickenbackers you've purchased since your last post. Cheers, J

Hmmm, "Judy Mendelson" just doesn't have that ring to it.... I like JDog much better:D

Offense? Nah, none taken, really!

Yep - wifi doesn't reach up into the part of the Swiss Alps where we were. Didn't bother me - it is nice to get away from technology at times.

Three at once? No, just one came in today and two others last week. This one is a decent-shape 59 Capri, taking it this afternoon to one of the guys down at the factory for thorough going-over.

Later dude! :)
