The thing is, once they were cleaned, and I played them for a week or so, the residue disappeared - no more dirty finger tips. Is that typical?

Funny. Those residues only came on 2 sets of all sets of chromes i bought, it seems to be not a consistent issue. Anyway, here we dont have any other brand of flats to buy, so im stuck with chromes.
A question that is getting me sleepless, is if i go rounds or flats with the rick, as i love the two sounds, and dont have the money to have 2 ricks!!!! (at least by now....)

BTW - that's some serious amplification you have (posted you know where in the Amps Forum).

That thread is a disaster. You, and several others who have posted there are obviously intelligent people who can see through the obvious nonsense that's going on.

I smell dated technology and a romanticizing of things from the past that wasn't as good as some folks think they remember them to be. :hmm: I, too, owned it, and it wasn't all that good. Okay for it's time, but the SVT blew it away.

Time will tell what unfolds. It always does. Oh, no pun intended!! :p

WHOOT! After selling my 7th 4001 25+ years ago I was able to pickup this well played Nov 1972 4001 this week. Ya, the pickguard isn't original, but the electronics and wood are! It's the first I've seen in a long time that's "BurgandyGlo/ EggShell". I'd forgotten how truly awesome a good 4001 is. Now I have a Geddy Jazz AND a true 4001 to play in a Rush Tribute band! I'll post more pics after I get it cleaned up.

Number please?
