The Rickenmodder Club

Just on the subject of string-to-edge-of-neck spacing, I figured I should post some closeups of mine:

Now, this guy doesn't totally belong here because it's not a real Ric. :) But the neck is quite close to the real thing. For anyone else looking to do a conversion, I highly recommend this Schaller 2000 bridge. It has very easy string-spacing adjustment, and the saddles sit much lower than the Kahler (which is also a great bridge).

Here is my 1986 2030 4-2-5 modded Rick.

What's the bridge on that thing? Just curious.

Hey all, I'm new here at TB but I'm really diggin the boards so far.

I just made this pick guard this weekend and I thought you all may appreciate it!

To be fair, that's before it was modded...;)

Actually the original bass was fireglo, then it got contact papered up, then it got refined as you see it there, then it got the horseshoe pickup repaired, and a new fretboard. Also it made a couple of trips back to the rickenbacker factory for repairs, and somewhere along the line it got the headstock broken off and reattached, and perhaps some more mods and repairs that I don't know about.

re: string spacing

I find with small strings, string spacing becomes a big factor, because small strings let you vibrato freely, which is something I find I do unconsciously rather than because I really think it fits the song. But I use 45-60-80-105 strings and I have not noticed the "falling G string" issue on any of my basses since moving to those gauges, generally in nickel rounds.

Ric5's bass played great, I bet he uses some bigger strings on it.

Well, that didn't take long did it......

What didn't?

Thanks!

I may attempt to make a matching bridge pup bezel with the wood I have left over.. project for a rainy day!

The texture on that is fantastic! Being that it's a two-piece, I'm wondering if you chose the orientation of the grain intentionally, or did the pieces on hand dictate?

Well I WANTED the grain lines to correlate but I really didn't have a choice per se.

The piece that I had to work with was a 5" x 24" x 1/8" plank so the only way I could orient the upper piece of the pick guard was with the lines going horizontal. I could have had the lines going straight up and down on the bottom guard, but I chose to kind of cock it a little to make it diagonal.. I'm glad I did, but I wish I had a wider piece so that I could have had the upper guard match the grain lines of the lower..

Maybe I'll do another one one day!

My bad. I always thought it was a MG. Nevermind....:hiding:
