The Rickenmodder Club

here's his digital sketches.

This is the work of Todd Bradshaw.

The only reason people have problems with this is because Rickenbacker are basses worth thousands of dollars because of their specific sounds. When you buy one and mod the sound, you destroy the bass. Nobody is arguing your right to do it, we're just arguing against the wisdom ;)

Looks more like the tubeampology pickup bezel. That's a classy looking bass.

If you're referring to mine, that's correct...and thanks for the compliment. I can't remember the cat's name, but he was great to work with. At the time he didn't have a template for my '80, so he made a couple of prototypes for me test fit. I think the fit in the cavity is glove-tight, but the pickup hole could have been a millimeter or two smaller.

Overall, I like it...great aggressive tone.:D

His name's Frank and he's a great guy to work with. Just ordered a bezel for my 4003FL that has a thumbrest cove in it!

On another note, so another mod for Cassius. Let us hear that beast when it's done!

Could someone please share a walk-though of installation of Ric HB1 in place of 4003 bridge pickup? Illustrated if possible. Thank you!

A plain picture of final result will be also very appreciated :)
Hi vates! My son-in-law is from the Ukraine - Kharkov. Great young man!

The plastic bottom plate of the bridge pickup on your 4003 has holes drilled where you will need them. You remove the pickup, remove the coil from this plate, then find two standoffs the right height and long enough screws to go through the HB1, the standoff, and into the bottom plastic plate.

Once you get into the higain pickup assembly, this explanation will become more clear. I do not have pictures.

It will sound really good!

Take the poll, please!
I just posted a poll in the pickups/wiring forum regarding the RWRP mod.
The basic question is should I do the mod, and what are the consequences of it?

I'd like to get as many opinions as possible, so I'm asking you guys to direct people who've done it/heard it to over to the thread:

Much appreciated. Think I'll post this elsewhere.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

That's funny: me and my band, we played in Kharkov this weekend. It was great!

Thanks for these explanations. The problem is that there's no pickup in the project body at all. So I can't really understand, what spare parts of the original higain do I need: bottom plate only (here I think any shim will do) or should I look for metal pickup ring as well? Hence my request for a photo of a finished mod. Thanks anyway :)

Maybe someone else who made this modification could post some pics?

Ah, I see your problem. You will still need the chrome surround, the two height screws, the springs, and the bottom plate, though you could make one out of aluminum.

You will need all the parts except the coil and the bar magnet under it. An HB1 pickup has its magnets with it.

OR, you could make a plastic guard the size of the chrome surround, with the 4 screw mount holes the same, then have it routed to fit the HB1 and mount it to the plastic guard like the neck pickup it.
