I don't think that's the issue. Fretless bass guitars sound like fretless bass guitars, not like upright basses.
I've tried a few more things, and I think I'm getting closer to an acoustic sound; it requires a bit of technique as well as tonal adjustments. I might need to use a fret wrap, as it seems like the Aerium has more sustain than I normally hear from an acoustic.
I use a US Army boot blouse across the strings at the bridge for a more URB sound. Front p'up ... treble and mid rolled back ... plucked at the end of the board ... and string mute. Works wonders.
Any kind of mute there works, though. Carol Kaye used a piece of foam rubber didn't she? Anyone who could make that beast SRX700 sound like a muted P bass is a genius imho.
