The action was pretty high on her when I got her and I thought, "Well, I'll just lower the saddles." Ha ha! The saddles were already as low as they could go. They were all bottoming out on the bridge. The only thing left to do was to shim the neck just a bit to raise the fretboard closer to the strings. So after experimenting with the right thickness of shim, I set the relief and adjusted all the string heights where I wanted them as well as the intonation. Viola! Then I noticed that the sound was sometimes cutting out when I was playing. I thought it might be an intermittent output jack, but traced it down to worn contacts on a very strange battery holder configuration. I cleaned and resprung the contacts and now she is rock solid. Probably not. I've been having some tingling in my left hand and my neurologist says it is due to carpal tunnel and neuropathy. She said I should move to a light-weight, short scale bass. This bass is fairly hefty and is, of course, long scale. So if I can sell it for what I need for it, I'll do so. Somebody needs to play this thing daily. :)

I would consult a physical therapist first.
In 2016 I sold all my gear, because I just couldn't play anymore, shooting pains in my arm.

A simple tendon stretching exercise (PNF) solved my problem a few months later & I started purchasing gear again.
I still strive to get the lightest gear, though.
That SR1800E above is only 8 lbs., as well is my SRX2.

I love my 94' and 95' SR 500 Soundgear basses. The one I really miss though is the 20th Anniversary Soundgear that I bought here on TB. If I ever come across another one and it has everything it came with new and doesn't have any damage, I will try and buy it. The new Anniversary Soundgear basses have a semi acoustic body but I don't really care for it. It's not made in Japan and doesn't appear to have the same quality.

How heavy is the sr3000? What weight are you aiming for? Which short scales are you looking at?

I don't have the proper scale for weighing the SR3000, Hypercarrots. My guess is that it is about 9.6 pounds or so. I want as light as possible and short scale will help with that. At this point, I'm looking at two easy-to-mod basses. The first is the Ibanez TMB30 in white. And the second is the Ibanez Mikrobass. Both of these get great reviews for what they are and are easily mod'ed for upgraded pups, saddles, and/or tuners. My maladies, such as they are, are not going to get better, only worse. But if I can make a few changes now, I can, hopefully, continue to play longer.

Yesterday I relented to my GAS & bought a pre-owned SR300EB:

SR300EB

Ibanez SR300EB

Played with a pick it sounds almost as good as my SR1800E :wideyed:
With fingers it sounds more like my SR eXtreme.

My tone deafness is apparent, because I can't really hear a difference in the 3 positions of the Power Tap switch.

It's the lightest bass I've ever owned, 3.35 kg (less than 7-1/2 lbs.)
