Well, the SR400 is a '99 (C9104530), but the incoming SR640 in question is a 2001 (F0132116). Do they have the same size P pup route?

The SR 400 is going to be a 99' if it has the PJ pickups.

The 640 is made in Japan. My guess is that one is a 1990.

I started buying Soundgear basses in 1993 and I don't recall there being a SR 640 model. Going off of memory, I remember the 400, 500, 800 and 1200.

So is it the 400, 640 or both basses that you want to put new PJ pickups in?

I've already enlarged the route in the SR400 and replaced the pups. I'm looking to also replace the pups in an incoming SR640 -- from what I could figure out from research, was a special run for GC back in 2001 with transparent finishes over ash. Here's the normal basswood one in the 2001 catalog:

I think all of the PJ pickups and there routing were the same. I know everyone that I owned was.

Cool, thanks for the info. I know I've seen a few SRs with Dimarzio Model P/Js installed, maybe they are slightly smaller than typical Fender pups.

I think the yearly catalogs give the pickup dimensions. Check with those as well.

I can't comment on figment of a lot pickups but I did install DiMarzio model P and it's a little tight, not super snug though.

I just got the SR690 in-hand. As it turns out, this 2001 MIJ model has a slightly larger P-pickup route than the 1999 MIK SR400, so normal size precision pups drop right in. Another interesting observation is the J-pup is in the 70s position on the SR690, vs 60s position on the SR400.

Ibanez routinely changes position of bridge pickups. My sr500 for example had a Bart like 10 mm from the bridge but the same sr500 a year later had the pickup moved like an inch+ from the bridge.

I'm happy to hear the route is normal sized.

yes that happened in 2008 when it changed from korea to indonesia. neck wood also changed from jatoba/bubinga to jatoba/walnut.

Crappy pic, but I love my gsr200b. $180 new. Lowered the action and put on some chromes and this thing rocks! I think the simple walnut stain with black hardware looks great and it weighs next to nothing. I like it better than other basses I've had that cost a lot more money.

I have a lefty 2009 SR500 and the E string is way louder than the other strings to the point where I can't gig or record with it. I've tried different strings to no avail. It has the stock Bart's and active EQ. What are some good replacement pickups that don't cost more than the $200 I paid for the bass?

I assume you already adjusted the pickup height and the action? Otherwise, maybe a tech can help?

Yes, I've tried adjusting the pickups and the action. Because it's just 1 string that is too loud I believe the pickups are the culprit. I'm just wondering what pickups TB users would recommend.

you could try flipping the pickups so the hot sensing area is under the G string.

Actually, the easiest thing would probably swap the E and G strings, or to just reverse the whole thing.
If the volume increase continues to be on the E string (now at the bottom) it may be possible the higher mass string needs to be further away from the pickup....
