I switched the chrome for black from the Mikro
possibly the lightest-weight solid-body 5-string out there, the GSR105EXMOL
I owned one that was under 6 lbs., but it did have a little neck-dive. (probably Poplar)
The GSR100EXMOL I own now is right at 7lbs. & balances perfectly.

I didn't quite copy you. I am waiting for Gotoh tuners Cosmo Black and the Cosmo Black B25 bridge. These don't really need serious modding other than the "look" . Chrome on Oiled Wood detracts IMHO.
Hi there! I have a $250 budget and am currently looking for something similar to an SR650 (Which is probably the best bass I've played. It was in a store and I didn't get it.) . Obviously if there was one for $250, it would probably sell in an instant. Here's the 2 basses I'm currently looking at.

I'm not a fan of those DX pickups in the SR480 & the SR800 I tried also didn't impress me. I was expecting big things with that variable mids control, but alas...
IMHO the PFR (Passive Full-Range) pickups in the SRX are the best OEM pickups Ibanez has used. By that I mean, not branded Bartolini or Nordstrand.
One downside however, they only have two wires, so you can't wire them series/parallel.

Ok. Are the SRX pickups flexible? I like to play Funk, Punk and a small amount of Jazz. I've never really played basses with humbuckers in them.

for what you're playing, the srx killed by death recommends is a good choice.
Carol Kaye plays a SRX700, so they're as versatile as they need to be:
This one costs a little more & is a lesser model, but the bridge is better than the B200 on the SRX500, IME

The B200 bridge has a problem, where the saddles slope down on one side:
The reason being, there's no adjustment-screw holding that side up, it's a folding saddle with a hinge.

Just... I haven't played one. Also, what's the weight like? I play a USA G&L and that's roughly 9 pounds.
SRX700 are 9 lbs. (Ash)
SRX2 (in my last link) should be around 8 lbs. (Basswood)

Sounds like a nice weight. Is the neck profile REALLY skinny like say, the SR500?

when the SRX was introduced in 2002, the neck was similar to the SR neck. .5m thicker at 12th fret than some SR models and identical to some other SR models.
in 2003, the SRX neck got thicker. it stayed that way until 2011.
Random thought: This is the battery cavity on my SRX 400. I'm reluctant to install a battery, because it seems like it would only fit, if I jammed it in. I was able to remove the previous owner's battery, but just so. He used an obscure brand that I've never seen before. It's possible that it's shaped a little different than the Duracell.
Not sure if that was a question, but yes it is possible.
Those cavities are pretty tight, I'll give you that.
You can try putting something like a piece of ribbon (as thin as possible, of course) around the battery, so as to be able to pull it out when needed.
Yes, thank you. I might try that. I also thought about routing it a smidge, but would probably just mess it up.
