I wish mine had the TR nut at the heel. I tend to take off those TR-covers & put them someplace. For a while I had them in a little KFC side-to-go container, LOL!
It rarely needs adjusting however, so I've left this one on.
Ideally they should have either the heel-adjust or the slide-cover TS-cover at the headstock:
It's a little ironic, because the bottom-rung GSR100EX has one of these handy TRCs.
I feel kinda dumb admitting this, but I couldn't determine if that thing opened or not. I didn't want to break it. I just checked google images and now I know.
What can you all tell me about the SR590? There's next to nothing online about it, can't find info on Ibanez's site, even the info on Talkbass is mostly in a couple for-sale posts -- which both seem to be for the same bass, so there don't seem to be a lot of them floating around.
There are two versions of the SR590, each version with two finishes, for a total of four iterations.
Here's the parts list for the two versions:

I'm not sure why one omits the preamp, as I'm almost positive there would be a preamp.
AFAIK those DX pickups are active.

Interestingly, neither of those match the model that was sold on TB, which is active and has four knobs: SOLD Ibanez SR590
The specs for '95 look spot-on.
I'm curious whether anybody here has first-hand opinions about it. The pickups are marked "Active Full Range" but I don't know whether that literally means the pickups require an always-on preamp, or they're passive (with some marketing-speak labels) and the preamp is only used for boost.
In the past Ibanez had a link on their site where you could see parts lists for instruments built before 2000, but that disappeared.
I wish I had saved those in by bookmarks before they disappeared & would be really grateful if someone could share those links here, if they have them.
The pickups themselves are active & could actually be used w/o the preamp.
(that would require some modification to the wiring)
Hm. That makes me a little less enthused. I'd rather have a bass that can still be usable without batteries. (Which is totally a personal hangup, I admit it.) I could always replace the pickups as well as the pre, but that would mean buying a cheap bass just to invest more money in it, and when I think about it that way it might be better to wait until something closer to what I want comes along. Thanks for the help!
Save up for a pre-owned Premium is my advice.
You can operate it passively if you like & those Nordstrand pickups are great.
The new SR500E has an active/passive switch as well, but it's got the BH2 Bartolini's
, no Titanium reinforcement in the neck, & the standard Ibanez machine-heads (which I abhor!).

It looks like you can get info from 1999 through 2011 from Archive.org's mirror. The search doesn't work but I was able to click my way to stuff.
Good advice, I've really enjoyed tooling on some of them. This time though, I actually want something cheap so I won't feel bad about experimenting on it. The local Sam Ash is selling a SR590 for $200 so I thought it was an opportunity to get a 500-series at a 200-series price, but since it has too many parts that aren't what I want, it's better off in the hands of somebody who'll love it for what it is now.
I'm still hoping online I'll fine the elusive SR1200L left handed. It's gorgeous but for some reason Ibanez stopped building them. Premium wood and hardware, Nordy pickups.Save up for a pre-owned Premium is my advice.

There is currently one on eBay UK but collection only, so maybe a bit far to travel!!
Awesome! I bought my 1992 SR885 brand new and I still own it today. It still plays and sounds great.

Hmm, on the subject of replacement parts, I wonder where could I get a new gold bridge for my SR885. Over the years, the "gold" has become tarnished and the adjustment screws rusted due to sweat/etc., although I made a point to wipe it down after each rehearsal or show.
if it's gold hardware it's probably an SR895. is it transparent red or transparent green/blue?
they used a gold version of this bridge

it may be hard to match with what's currently available
